Also this is the first Saturday after bonfire night in the UK, when we set off all our fireworks (to celebrate someone nearly blowing up the houses of parliament), so there were always going to be fireworks in London. Still, I can assure you many of us over here are definitely celebrating.

I’m not saying that it can be done. I just disagree that taking out Fox News wouldn’t matter when imho it’s the one of the few things that actually would severely impact right-wing tribalism.

As to a new network taking its place; that would take decades to happen. All the new and existing grifters, be it youtubers or new networks, will snap and snarl at one another to get their part of the idiot pie, until finally one manages to grow large enough to become the new Fox News.

Four years ago, I had to draft a briefing paper for the Trump transition’s “landing team.” It had the distinct feeling of an occupation.
For the last four years, civil servants have had to work with, and under the direction of, truly contemptible political appointees who have been dedicated to wrecking the missions of our agencies.

But whether this is true or not, I disagree that it would take years for Fox to be replaced. It’s a simple matter of business competition – someone is going to grab that audience, and it may be one giant or a a group of competitors. It may very possibly be Trump Media.
