Clearly the state itself isn’t shitty; it’s the people inside the state that hold such horrendous beliefs that I really can’t stand. I’ll retract my ‘shitty state’ phrasing and replace it with ‘state that is populated mainly by shitty people’. To paraphrase The Lost Boys, Kentucky is a fine place, except for all the racists. It’s unfortunate you’re surrounded by them but it doesn’t seem like it’ll get better anytime soon. I honestly feel for people stuck in situations like that. Seems like we’re still years or decades away from making significant progress in that area.

To add to that, I grew up in Texas. I know a hell of a lot of great people in Texas. But they’re outnumbered by the shitty ones right now. I don’t think every Texan is shitty but it colors my opinion of the state as a whole.
