The Bitcoin Saga

In a hotel creating propaganda for Facebook?

In Russia, Bitcoin mine you.

I sometimes forget socialism exists except when it’s in a Twitter joke.

I suppose it would depend on whether they were paying their bribes. Considering the fact that there were arrests, I’d say they did not. In Russia, legal tenders you!

When I bring up how socialism is simply not a going concern anywhere in the developed world with my right wing friends I get earfulls about how democrats are marxists and the secret communist takeover of america is a far far greater and more potent threat than, say, neo-nazis.

They had a successful socialist government for a while in Uruguay under Mujica. The same party is still in power, but I think they’ve waffled back centerwards again. Still at least a left-wing market party, anyway. Strongly democratic, low corruption index, general satisfaction amongst the populace, so much better off than most of the rest of South America at the moment.

Aw man I got served by the libertarians and their not at all ridiculous and super practical philosophy, I feel so ashamed

Yeah, because when you’re wrong the best defence is to point out that the people who regularly disagree with you are more wrong.

(Greece has a socialist government, the main opposition party in the UK is now socialist, and that’s just the examples I can think of without doing any research. And this isn’t counting social democracy as socialism (because it isn’t). )

In which way is Greece’s government “socialist” and where does it fundamentally differ from the social-democratic parties all over Europe?

Syriza call themselves the “Coalition of the Radical Left”. They sit with the socialists/communists in the European Parliament.

Of course you can redefine socialist to mean whatever you want, but within the context of Soapyfrog’s claim he was clearly referring to the radical left ideology which Syriza publically espouse.

Now you can argue that it is impossible for the government of an EU state to be meaningfully socialist in terms of its actions because EU rules prevent it, and that this is doubly true of Greece because of the aftermath of the financial crisis. But that’s a whole other discussion.

I am talking about economic socialism.

Uruguay is not a socialist country, nor is Greece. They are capitalist countries with strong social benefits.

People will bitch about this, but I actually think it’s kind of revolutionary. Not a bad idea, but more a harbinger of things to come in the future.

Fuck that shit. I have enough trouble with companies wanting to use my personal data to make money off me, I don’t want them using my own damn resources to make money off me, too. Sites that implement that nonsense will be instantly closed from my machine and forever dead to me.

Yeah, but some things are inevitable due to human nature … like loot boxes. People will do anything to avoid paying money for something.

I prefer to avoid things that people want to charge me money for.

How do we pay for content? I don’t mind ads, if they come reputable sources, but that is not easy to figure out these days.

I am wondering if this is how the internet dies.

It occurs to me they will change their tune one every AV vendor flags their sites as malware.
