I brought it up as an example in response to a post @Nesrie made in the Election thread (see here) and after the initial post thought it would be better moving it to this thread, where it fit in better. And frankly it still pissed me off knowing that we had an unrepentant racist on the bboard.
As I said upthread, racist comments don’t go away, they sit and fester. The fact that previously one of our fellow posters had said that he thought racists jokes were hilarious still pisses me off three years after the fact.
In the US, people bragging about their support for this sort of casual racism is directly related to Trump and Trumpism, which is exactly what happened in the original post in the Discovery / Orville thread. Trump has given permission for people to be openly racist again, as has the resurgence of white nationalist movements in other places in the world.
