A young woman I work with came in last year with her hair all braided, she has long hair. She was talking about it with another black woman and out of curiosity I asked how long it took and what it cost. She told me a friend did it, because if she had to pay for it she would never had got it done.

I think the weirder part for me is still having my mom just stand there and not say anything. It’s been like that my whole life though. My parents just enter some sort of state of shock any time they see something like this, bystander mode is what I call it.

I am grown woman, so I don’t need my parents to defend me in anyway, and I could’ve walked away the first time he asked, but I kind of wanted to see what was in the booth.

My parents tried to let us do a few things with our hair, but x2… they couldn’t afford, weren’t prepared for it, and for braids, and relaxing and anything of that nature… every 2-3 months. They kept looking for cheap, and it just doesn’t exist. Natural hair requires some products, but I didn’t do that until college when I kind of entered the I am just not doing this mode I maintain now.

I was dumbounded that this could somehow be true but then I went looking. The daycare provider case truly has a lot of extraneous information - recent immigrant from Ukraine who was under a lot of stress from her husband who was abusing her. BTW - the child survived because she told another person to call police. Read it here:

Arresting the 12 year old on charges of trying to sell a mixed tape - when he actually wasn’t selling anything (he had been warned before) only reinforces how ludicrous the police are behaving. This should be dismissed.

I wouldn’t retweet that…it’s rather disingenuous and there is too much backstory there on the daycare provider. But I would retweet the hell out of the 12 year old because this is just another example of power hungry cops who are specifically targeting African Americans.

I got a weird e-mail from our neighborhood watch captain.

The person of color (man) going door to door on (street name) selling his wares. He most likely is heading this direction or will be in the coming days. We have dealt with him before. My suggestion of course, is not to open the door.

There are a couple things weird about this. I mean the fact she says this person is a person of color, doesn’t matter. It’s a door-to-door sales person in a pandemic… enough said. Also, there is nothing illegal about door-to-door sales people in this neighborhood. There’s no city ordinance against that at all so really it’s just COVID issue with a stranger and their color, or lack of, has nothing to do with it.
