Dang

Amash checking in again.

This one’s weird. I can’t tell exactly what’s happening but the LPD say that McAtee shot at them first and they returned fire. They released this video to clarify it but it’s still hard to really see what’s happening, especially without sound.

At the 2:30 mark, it looks like McAtee might possibly be shooting at the cops from the doorway while a guy with a pistol stands behind him. The 2nd half of the video shows the outside view, with the cops advancing and firing a canister (tear gas I assume) at the doorway. No idea why they approached and initiated conflict though.

This is the same incident where the Louisville police chief was canned by the mayor because all the officer body cams had been turned off. All of them.

Oh I agree with all of this, but it misses my points. I was more looking future. What happens if Black Lives Matters is wildly successful?

  1. Cops kill poor people, no matter skin color.
  2. Remove racism from the equation and cops are still killing lots of blacks because they are poor.
  3. There is danger of cops developing racism by equating poor to skin color. Any skin color. Unique to their specific job and could potentially nullify successes in Black Lives Matters for future if poverty isn’t dealt with.

But I suppose you can’t solve it all at once. I read the Black Lives Matter website closely and see that it really is specifically geared to this one area. I personally wish that the focus was different and believe that more lives would be saved if it was, but if wishes were fishes.

Hyperbole of course. Do a quick Google search “homeless man killed by cops” and tell me again how stupid the argument is. How about “drug dealer killed by cops”. Strangely enough, race isn’t front and center in those stories, and there are a LOT of them. I’m sorry you don’t care. I do, which is why I’m posting.

@schurem if you haven’t already, read Obama’s speech on race. I think that one is inline with what you are getting at. It’s incredible. https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=88478467

He can go out and riot now without the badge.

In other words, the people who told you that you’re in the wrong place with this argument were…right.

Thanks for posting this. I assumed LPD was full of shit, given they’re the LPD, but hadn’t seen the response to their response yet.

What a strange comment. The title of the thread isn’t “Black Lives Matter members”. Am I only supposed to post here if I’m a true believer? Also, I learned something in the process, so I’m going to call it a win, despite the negativity.

I just can’t… as in deal with you again, on this topic.

Yeah, me too.

Request: Could anyone posting things about any police department spell out the city/county/state so we can keep track more easily of which particular assholes are the worst?

Because there are too fucking many abuses to keep count of :(

In other news, @Anklebiter maybe if literally everyone is in your face about this _____ take you keep spouting, maybe reevaluate it.

It’s hard to get all the info sometimes.

As far as the worst?

Minneapolis, LA, NYC and Seattle are fucking a litany of horseshit from what I’ve seen.
You can probably go down T Greg Doucette’s thread and keep a tally since he’s been good about citing where they happened, but he’s also human and is taking breaks because he’s getting so many of them he can’t keep up.

Were US soldiers racist against the Japanese in WW2? How about Vietnam? Cops are in the shit every day. It isn’t quite a war, but it also lasts a long time. Today a good ole boy thing, tomorrow the above.

@inactive_user but that’s the thing. I had a conversation on this topic with a black friend who had similar feelings. I’m not sure I should reevaluate the position, but I sincerely don’t mean to offend anybody. I’ll stop posting.

Oh for sure, I just mean when posting news to the thread, it’s much easier to parse when you spell out “Louisville” or “Minneapolis” or “Las Cruces” or whatever.
