I’m saying large unlicensed gatherings are already illegal. If it were up to the cops and civilian authorities, no protests of any kind would ever happen for any reason.
You do what you do and you make your argument for why you’re doing it, and either you get your head busted by a cop or thrown in jail or you don’t, and the public either supports you or they don’t. There’s no theoretical framework here…this is what’s actually happening.
Note one of the potential symptoms of Covid19 is loss of sense of smell and taste. So maybe they are hoping to get gassed to test if their sense of smell is working ok. It’s really a public health gathering if you think about it. Not to mention the free medical care you can receive while in prison.

Absolutely false. If you cared to look, you’d find that I was quite uncertain about very strict rules against protest in certain states, and only mollified when it was explained that there are checks and balances to those limits being placed.
I supported the right of those idiots to protest because they wanted their Baby Back Ribs, but thought it was a joke both because of the false outrage over TYRANNY and the fact that they refused to wear masks or take any sort of precautions.
So take that both-siderism somewhere else, sir.
So what you are saying is that two to three weeks from now we could have thousands of COVID-19 Super-Non-Taster protesters out there impervious to tear gas and pepper spray and the police would have only themselves to blame? Sounds like 2020 to me!

So this is me on the libertarians:
And this is me on the BLM protestors in the US:
And this is you:
You have a funny definition of “both siderism”. I’m rather tired of that slur in general - what was originally an attack on the media presenting two “sides” of the story as havign equal value (despite one being flagrantly dishonest) has become an attack on anyone who tries to treat arguments on their merits.
I’m sorry I mischaracterised your position on the bans against assembly. I didn’t notice anyone other than the usual libertarian suspects expressing an opinion, but it’s a very long and messy thread.
I have very grave doubts about the “BLM” protests outside the US taking place right now. I’m not sure what good it does, and the price is very high.
You cannot tell me the social media folks at the FBI did not know exactly what the response to this tweet would be.

Removing and/or covering up identifying information from law enforcement should be illegal nationwide. Add that to the list of demands.
This isn’t Watchmen. Cops don’t get to wear masks.
In fact, without any sort of identification, who’s to say that these people are actually legitimate law enforcement officers? Couldn’t anyone just go buy that gear at a surplus shop? How do we know that they’re not just a bunch of white supremicists playing dress up?
Some of those guys look like they have Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) fatigues and equipment. Some of the others could be ATF or other Fed agents on loan, or hell, knowing the Trump Administration they could be PMCs. It would be peak GOP to have taxpayers paying to have themselves beaten by PMCs at protests.
With faces on full display, removing nameplates seems like an inconvenience at best. What are the odds that every single one of those officers is smart enough to never post their faces on social media under their real name?
I think you’re misreading me here. I’m saying that if people are willing to risk police attack by protesting in violation of the law, I think they are probably not going to be put off from it by the possibility of getting sick. They’ve accepted that what they are doing is dangerous. I’m not making a value judgment about their choices; I’m trying to explain the choice. It doesn’t mean they suddenly don’t believe Covid-19 is real or dangerous,
Sure, agreed in general. The specific tweet in question though, they’re just wearing clear plastic face shields. Still not ideal, perhaps, but I bet there are some commercially available search engines that will get some hits.
Yes, I deleted my comment because I had clearly missed the context here. Sorry about that!
One of the better scientists tracking covid19, thoughts on the interaction of the pandemic and the protest, and how we might deconvolute this later.
