I saw it tweeted yesterday. Not sure if anything further has developed.

Be cool if they replace it with a statue of Monroe Morton or someone equally deserving.

That’s fantastic. Neither protestors nor police around here seem to be taking that seriously enough.

We have seen a decrease of these police incidents over the last 5+ years, because there has been an exponential increase in camera in society we just see all now instead of just reading about them. I actually think that all of these incident help “bend the arc toward justice”, simply by the horror of the video. I’m not sure the protest matter all that much.

I’m not criticizing young people, they been stuck at home, with no jobs, no future, no money, no fun, with their lives on hold for two+ months. They need an outlet.

But us old folks (say 40+), who are a great risk of death and serious illness, we should be wiser and stay home.

As long as Trump is President, no change is possible at the Federal level.

I don’t think we have any idea. If there were fewer cameras / no cameras before, how could we?

Yes, what a fun lark and leisure activity all of this is.

trying to save his job, I guess.

The other three are charged with aiding and abetting [murder].

After we ended apartheid and Mandela came into power we had the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. This allowed:

Witnesses who were identified as victims of gross human rights violations were invited to give statements about their experiences, and some were selected for public hearings. Perpetrators of violence could also give testimony and request amnesty from both civil and criminal prosecution.

A BIG part of this was that it was broadcast countrywide on radio and some of them on live tv.

I personally feel that this was the first time white people got to witness the full extent and fully understand what was happening in the rest of the country, outside their suburbs.

Oh, and apparently this came after Esper was called to a White House meeting. So yeah, basically: “Do this or resign.”

And I guess if Tom Cotton is the next man up, I’ll take this lesser evil for now.

Apparently many of the Mystery Cops all over DC are Bureau of Prisons people.

I’m well aware that shitty healthcare is one the main reasons it has hit black communities so hard.

So you think these protest are going to result increase in health care dollars for poor communities? When? At what level? certainly not Federal.

I do think that protest help bring about change. I’m a bit skeptical that they are as effective as people wish. I think politicians pay more attention to polls, and calls and letters from their constituents than protest signs.

Under the best of times, protests are a mixed bag. The often turn violent which turns the public against the protest. They looting and fires are predominately in poor neighborhoods, and the people hurt are the folks in those neighborhoods.

But never before in US history, has the mere act of a peaceful protest brought with it increased risk of death, illness and economic devastation and all of this is worse for poor people. The sooner they end the better.

They largely ignore calls an letters nowadays.

Grassley’s inbox was full for an entire month and no one ever answered a call.
If you emailed, you got a chain letter in response.

There is a virtual town hall coming on Obama.com supposedly right now, if anyone is interested in hearing him talk about police violence.

It’s also on YouTube. Just waiting for it to start.

They still tally them, pro or con for a specific issue. They’ve almost always responded with form letters.

Last time I called my rep, they hung up on me when I (politely) started raising concerns. I’ve never received anything back besides form letters. Of course my rep is Chris Stewart, so he’s likely too busy huffing Trump smegma to pay any heed to his constituents so maybe it’s better elsewhere.

I hear what you’re saying BUT there is definitely a time when a line is crossed, a time to stand up and say “No More”.

What happens after/from that may not be known but it that should not stop anyone from making their stand.

The outcome may not be clear but the action is.

Well, you’re right and wrong. The only thing the political system in the US responds to is force.

The sooner they end, the sooner the status quo can be restored and “business as usual” returned. Protests that scare the political classes make changes. Protests full of millions of peaceful women cause the political classes to shrug.

That this is in the middle of a pandemic is saying “not now, later”. Except it’s not just about protesting but about everything in life. There’s always tomorrow to do it, and oops now your old and dead. Maybe the kids, or grandkids, or some distant generation.

Seems like Trump has overruled Esper.
