No, I’m not disputing that.
The Onion is murdering it lately.
The paras seem to be shooting at protesters tonight in DC. The fence is up so this looks like today’s. Nobody looks hurt so I have no idea what they are shooting.
My town is interesting in that, politically, it is a mix of extremes. People here are either very progressive or Trump supporters. (The crybaby white supremist from Charlottesville is from my town, same asshole who organized harassment of our meter maids until an Iraq veteran had to quit because the stress was too much.).
At today’s rally there was a single counter protestor. One shit head in some faux military jacket waving a giant Trump flag while walking around the square in front of all the protestors. Clearly trying to instigate a fight. The police intervened and told him if he wanted to counter protest it needed to be a safe distance away from everyone else.
Apart from that, the makeup of the crowd and the cars blowing their horns in support was extremely socioeconomically diverse. I mentioned the truck driver because he was the first one that struck me but throughout the rally I continued to see the sort of rural blue collar folks that you would stereotype as Trump supporters actively participating in the rally. And on the truck front, tree trimmers, garbage trucks, tow trucks and firemen all enthusiastically wailed on their horns while putting their thumbs up out the window.
Which actually doesn’t surprise me entirely. The one thing I hate about living here is the lack of racial diversity. That’s finally beginning to change and the breakdown across socioeconomic lines is not entirely even which means that the poor neighborhoods are diversifying faster and not in a segregated manner. A lot of people who haven’t paid attention to current events and politics and even some who have swallowed the Fox world view out of sheer ignorance of any perspective other than their own are starting to have their horizons broadened.
Most confusing was the car with confederate flag stickers I. The window blowing their horn in what appeared to be support.

Wouldn’t it be something if all of the protesters there started cheering on the troops and thanking them for their service to the American people and to the Constitution? Just straight clapping and smiles and cheers and genuine offers of handshakes elbow bumps. How would those soldiers react? And when the order comes down the line to charge?

Your graduating class had 900 kids? Holy shit that must have been a big school.
You don’t know the half of it. 900 in my graduating class. The school had to convert bathrooms and bring trailers onto school property for classrooms for the next year.
The year after that, a new high school opened in the district. Within 4 years both high schools had graduating classes of over 800. Now I think there are three high schools in the district. (It’s an area that used to be just farmland, so 120 years ago when St. Charles County drew up the district lines, they made it a huge area because the schools just had small groups of farm kids going there. The farmers all sold out after WWII, and it’s suburban sprawl.
A lot of these clips are old, of course; the sun’s been down for some time. More activity outside of the main protester group in DC. If I had to guess, that’s where the trouble (if any) is to be found at this point as it’s off camera. For anyone near who’s partaking, just stick with the main crowd.

One or two people showed up to Portland.
22 minutes old when I posted it. Thanks for watching. (I live in Northern Virginia; I’m aware of the time based on light signatures in DC, which is about 6 miles away. It was still light out when I posted those clips of people singing, and the military troops debarking.)
Oh, I wasn’t meaning your stuff wasn’t good, I’m sorry if it came off that way; I’m just worried about some people over there is all.
Right now there’s a super up-for-anything group pressed up close to military guys who apparently are part of a Utah national guard unit. back half a block behind them things are a little more chill.
Curfew hits in 15 minutes. Hopefully they just let folks be.
Do NOT read the comments to that NY Times Guild tweet.
Looks like a bigger crowd in DC tonight than there was last night.
BTW, early in the AM, they pressed the perimeter around the White House out by another block in every direction.
Big crowd at the Capital moving to the White House. It’s about a 20-30 minute walk usually.
Live stream with the White House group of protesters.
(New stream up and running at 11:25 ET)
