If somebody else than Trump wins the next elections, it will be liberating/catartic to see these walls between the white house and the people be removed and thrown away, with (hopefully) all Trump legacy.

Ich bin ein Berliner

Very surprising coming from good citizens trying to make a citizen’s arrest.

New CBS poll on race in the US is up. A lot of it falls into “well, obviously” territory (61% think race relations in the US are “generally bad”.) The crucial bit, though, is this:

Meanwhile, more now feel there is racial discrimination by police. A majority — 57% — now think police are more likely to use deadly force against a black person than a white person, up from 43% in 2016. Here, too, much of this change comes from a shift in opinion among whites. More than half of whites (52%) now see racial discrimination against blacks in how police use force, compared to just a third (36%) four years ago. …

There is universal agreement — across demographic groups and political ideology — that the force used by Minneapolis police in the detainment of George Floyd was not justified.

Like most Democrats and independents, a majority of Republicans do not think the force used by Minneapolis against George Floyd was justified.

Minds are being changed, however slowly.

Some wacko in Queens ran after protesters with a shredder claw (4 knives taped into a claw) and tried to run over the protesters which are mostly little white girls.

This may be in NY14, AOC’s district. It’s very white district, some asians + hispanics. Lots of American flags. Has voted Trumpy before.

Looks to me like they could try to enhance images to get a license plate number.

And why are white people’s minds changing? It may not be for the idealistic reason we hope:

… but still, change is change.

(Those are just the highlights, the whole thread is very good.)

This is really outstanding and, I think, very much on target. Thanks for sharing it!

And I think the reason is that they fall under DoJ and Barr is commanding them. Barr gave the order to attack the protesters in Lafayette Square. I was trying to figure our hoe he had the authority to do anything of the kind. He’s using prison guards as a private police force, it seems.

Well at least prison guards in the US have a long and honorable history of compassion, calm, and conscientious understanding of long-standing racial inequity.

It seems clear Trump is relying on Barr and DOJ forces because he isn’t getting what he wants from the military.

(More precisely: the FBI is investigating.)

Fuck me these cops.

I guess that’s what they get for bringing gas masks and first aid kits to a tear gas, pepper spray, and rubber bullet fight.

Not sure if both of these videos from Seattle were posted already. If not, they’re 100% worth a watch.

First, a horrifying overhead view:

Then, on the ground, synched up:

This is LEO failing to de-escalate a situation and instead panicking and losing all control.

Yes, clearly bringing supplies to treat tear gas and rubber bullet wounds means that the police had no choice but to use tear gas and rubber bullets.

That’s good…even if it is largely lip service, I guess. That Radley Balko article in the WaPo yesterday was infuriating.

Yep – this yet another version of the same story. A cop says he sees something, anything, that frightened him, and that’s game over. He won’t be accountable (other than the inconvenience of maybe having to switch employers).

Qualified immunity can’t continue in its current form. “I was scared for my life” can’t automatically excuse murders.

That fits the literal definition of Menacing in NY. It’s only a misdemeanor, so maybe the police have bigger fish to fry. Assault requires physical contact and a serious injury.

This may be a case where the internet is the only remedy. Maybe he’ll be doxxed and lose his job.

This incident has to have violated some rule of the Henchmen’s Union.
