I’m going to ask a question here, and I mean it sincerely–you guys know I don’t troll, and I’m as liberal as they come.
But: what is the end game here? Is this just going to go on endlessly, are people expecting some immediate concrete change, or what?
I just don’t see any legitimate way things end peacefully.

I always took it as a stab against police militarization and budget bloat.

Accountability and change.
Ideally you’d have something federal, but that ain’t happening for at least another 7 months, so it’s on the cities and states to figure out a solution. Minneapolis is showing they’ve got open minds about it, other big cities could easily go that route.
Honestly most of this week has been solidarity and just showing people that protests are mostly peaceful until the cops get bored and start teargassing everything that moves. NAACP/BLM has had a list of demands iirc, but I’d have to hunt it down.

I mean we had two individuals outright murdered by cops and then another murdered life by non-cops, but the justice system refused to even pursue them. It’s not a small effort to address that… and that was before the police started beating the shit out of protesters who should be protected by freedom of speech.
So it’s going to be more than words, and certainly not promises from known liars, but real and accountable change.
There’s a pandemic. He’s 80. He has pancreatic cancer. No doubt his doctor would recommend John Lewis not go the site of the protests.
I’m sure people have told him to stay home many, many times in his life. I am grateful he did not.

You want gun control? Because this is how you get gun control.
Asked if the ‘Peace Officers’ would be armed and open carry their guns in the states that allow it, he said: ‘Yes, absolutely.’

Remember when that little punk ass Richard Spencer got punched a couple times for being such a punk ass and he decided that he’d cancel speaking events and avoid the public? So glad American heroes like John Lewis are made of tougher stuff.

So between 300 and 800 cops were so adamant about not having any accountability for their actions that they’d rather be unemployed right now.
The Buffalo PD can only hire so many of them.
Fuck them.

Seattle just went violent in the middle of the day.
Lotta cops with their badge numbers covered.

This seems to be fake right?
They say they’re going to completely rethink and rebuild public safety. So it doesn’t sound like they’re doing anything this instant, and it doesn’t sound like they have no intention of worrying about public safety.
“In Minneapolis and in cities across the US, it is clear that our system of policing is not keeping our communities safe,” said Lisa Bender, the Minneapolis city council president, at the event. “Our efforts at incremental reform have failed, period. Our commitment is to do what’s necessary to keep every single member of our community safe and to tell the truth: that the Minneapolis police are not doing that. Our commitment is to end policing as we know it and to recreate systems of public safety that actually keep us safe.”

From a “True Patriot” on the internet when I tried to engage with him about giving up all his rights.
He wanted to keep the 2nd but was willing to toss all the rest in the garbage.
I asked how many cops he could take when they decided to come for him after all his other rights didn’t exist.
“The cops wouldn’t come for me… I’m not part of antifa like you are.”
Then he blocked me.

I mean he’s a verified account of someone running for Congress.
If it is, that’s on him and his people.
It’s worth remembering that your discomfort doesn’t mean anything and it’s kind of the whole point.
He’d lose. I don’t think his decency will play outside of Utah with the Republicans.
I think your discomfort means something, in the sense that a similar discomfort held by independent voters could influence their voting behavior.
