Not really sure what I am seeing here, but I do see zero reason for them to tackle him. I mean what the hell, that officer was just out of control.

“And that’s for driving with expired plates!”

Seriously, what was up with taking him down like that?

Have you met our litigation lawyers?

Looks like Rand Paul’s stopped clock lined up with the correct time today.

The police need to stop trying to make annoyed people feel comfortable. And if someone mouths off… so what. So yeah, if it doesn’t look like a crime… leave them alone. Tell her to mind her own.

I mean

It was condemned by the city’s vice mayor, who called for an independent investigation into the incident.

“I am outraged and I am sad and I am committed to ensuring that there is a full, independent investigation and that there is accountability for those involved, including those who created a system that allowed this to happen,” Alameda Vice Mayor John Knox White said in a statement.

City manager Eric Levitt questioned the actions of the officers and also called for an investigation.

Excellent article.

Certainly a general trend in the UK - which is in a situation completely different to the US vis-a-vis racism in the police, but still - is that wherever there is vagueness or discretion in the rules about searches, arrests, etc., these powers end up being used disproportionately on minorities. One of the major trends in the various pieces of reforming legislation and reforms to secondary regulations in the last 40 years is removing this kind of vagueness. Clearer rules are easier to enforce on the police. And the rules need to be enforced, universally and consistently.

I strongly suspect that in a lot of places noone in power would have cared about this illegal detention (and as people have pointed out city officials agree it was illegal detention). Although maybe the protests will make people care more about this kind of thing.

Man, it’s almost like the SPD is a garbage fire.

meanwhile, in the UK, statues of black figures are attacked

Johnson pushes the “extremist” lie.

and despite the racist Prime Minister insisting “The UK is not a racist country” we have counter protests out shouting that black “apes” “should go home to Africa”

I find it admirable that apparently the police come for every call.

I can’t understand why some people can’t mind their own fucking business, holy shit, maybe that’s why I thought NY is just a normal city while every american told me people there were cold and anti-social.

Apparently once police are called on a black person it’s the law that an arrest has to be made? I mean, somebody called, person’s black, so, arrest time, like it’s a rule or something?

And the whole, hey, somebody called, police need to take it very seriously leads to SWAT killing people opening their doors.

Dave Chappelle, a comedian of color, posts one of the most compelling, frightening, and thoughtful pieces of angry commentary out there, and done under incredible circumstances.

It’s too bad this is buried in an avalanche of whatever the hell is going on in this thread this morning.
