I wonder if the person who wrote that made the garbage clickbait title, or if someone at the NYT did.

Because they literally say in the sticker that they don’t want to clear police departments.

But that title is really dumb. Democrats need to get away from this crap.

Not sure if this belongs here, but since the original news was listed here it goes.

Band that clearly didn’t do a google search before choosing their old name fails again to do google search before choosing their new name.

Wow, if they have a business manger, he needs to be fired. This is like business 101.

That’s a big oops. I applaud the attempt, but they should’ve done their homework.

Eh, that appears to be Rolling Stone drumming up some clicks. This happens in the world of music all the time; have a look at how horribly Spotify does when it encounters two bands with the same name.

There are millions of Lady Antebellum fans who’ve been calling the band “Lady A” for over a decade. A blues singer who’s list of accomplishments begins with “Sings karaoke a lot” is pretty weak work for Rolling Stone.

Case in point: there are 13 artists on Spotify known by the one-word moniker “Chavez”. Somehow the music world continued to spin, nonetheless. An band calling themselves “Game Theory” released a record in 2015. It is not the “Game Theory” whose frontman died in 2013.

There are 11 bands called “Sleepyhead” on Spotify right now, not even counting Sleepyheadz, The Sleepyheads (of which there are two different bands) or SleepyHeadd.

Agreed. The Lady A thing is just a chuckle, not an outrage.

It’s really good to these kinds of things happening now, but there’s a little part of me in the back yelling “we could have been doing this the whole time”. The number of deaths and unnecessary arrests made for people to realize training jacked up warrior cops and sending them to deal with every situation isn’t a good idea is too damn high.

America. Doing the right thing after exhausting all other possibilities.

Heh. Our great natural talent, Mr. Churchill. :)

It seems like the #1 thing you could do to reduce unnecessary overreactions and violence by cops is take all the knucklehead stuff that they’re not really equipped for off their plate. Noise complaints, routine school discipline calls, non-violent mental health calls and so on.

Also, maybe we wouldn’t need to keep such large armed police forces as a side benefit.

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/fox-news-runs-digitally-altered-images-in-coverage-of-seattles-protests-capitol-hill-autonomous-zone/

Fox News published digitally altered and misleading photos on stories about Seattle’s Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) in what photojournalism experts called a clear violation of ethical standards for news organizations.

So you’re saying, we should defund the police in favor of other first responders better equipped to deal with non criminal situations.

If only we could find a catchy slogan for that.

ducks

Indeed so. Maybe we can get to a similar place from another direction and the decent law-abiding folks won’t have to get their jimmies rustled.

Anything’s possible if we… imagineer it!

The inevitable backlash begins

Too good not to post

The replies to that first tweet are comedy gold.

It seems to me the fact the blue’s singer is an older African-American women is pretty relevant in this situation, especially cause she objected. I’m I missing something?

I agree defund the police is not something the politicians should be going with.

However, the protestors and activists are giving cover to the politicians being able to do real reform with the claims. The defund chants are what you should be doing in order to keep pushing the Overton window left on this. Just don’t stay home if the politicians settle for strong reforms.

I got to see some FOX News since I visited my parents for the first time yesterday, and they are all in on the law and order propaganda right now. So that’s Trump’s strategy. The biggest thing Dems can do to cement their lead is to keep the pressure on law enforcement and expose the roaches to sunlight. You just have to stop short of saying the police are unfixable and should be defunded- as I think folks assume that means no cops.

I like the idea of unarmed social workers/professional being asked to respond to non-criminal calls, or having it be one cop/one social worker, with the cop providing backup and not intervening unless things escalate or if the social worker decides it’s necessary.

Eh, I suppose. She’s going to get more Spotify spins off that silly article than she’d have ever gotten in her entire life. Hopefully she’ll be able to get some more karaoke lounge bookings in her area off of that, too. I wish her the best.

EDIT:

BTW, I’m imagining that the country band that sells millions of records did do a search on the one search engine that matters here: the USTPA site, where you can search trademarks for free. (Because I was curious, I just did that search my own self.)

And in so doing, they likely discovered that there were no living or “dead” trademarks for the name “Lady A” for musical performers that were registered. The only other living “Lady A” trademark is for some brand of skin cream and cosmetics.

And I’m guessing the karaoke R&B singer who took her story to Rolling Stone did so after realizing this…and possibly also being told by a lawyer that if she tried to bring a case, a judge was likely to look at the probabilities of one entity profiting off of being mistaken for the other entity in such a civil action, and that this particular finding would not go super well for the karaoke R&B singer.
