Thanks for the replies, I agreed that it was an assumption, that people are better than what they actually are :(

I would still think that the person making the call would be faced with some sort of fine or penalty, but I suppose that’s where the “making it sound like she’s actively being beaten.” comes in in that she can defend herself with “I didn’t say I was being beaten”.

It’s incredibly frustrating to read about this shit, and that’s not even being the poor person going through it.

It’s SO frustrating!

But imagine if the person walking up to this woman was in plain clothes, or minimally-police-ish, wasn’t carrying a gun, and was trained in de-escalation.

This person would verify that the woman was a hotel guest and walk away. No harm, no foul. Of course the hotel employee would still need to be fired for making the call instead of just confirming him/herself, but at least it wouldn’t be a law enforcement issue.

While other stories have taken headlines from the BLM movement lately, it’s good to see the dismantling of the lost cause continues.

So yeah, Trump is not going to love this one.

My older brother was just on KTLA in Los Angeles and compared the antebellum southern plantations from Virginia to Texas to Bergen-Belsen and Auschwitz.

(And I don’t dispute that at all, frankly; it’s just crazy hearing from your brother who was once a champion of centrist politics back in the late 1990s…much less hearing him go there on a big TV station in LA.)

My only problem with that is the purely practical matter that it swaps a fall semester holiday for a summer break holiday, which is just a bummer all around. Not that we couldn’t take that October break without the Columbus Day excuse, of course. Are there any Civil Rights holidays in October we could swap in, here? Or maybe something in February? February always sucks. :)

@playingwithknives, can you stop it with the C-word already? I understand the meaning in British English but in American English, which is the common vernacular of this board, it’s incredibly offensive.

I’m not the thread police and I’m not making a formal report or anything, but please, reconsider the use of that word. Consider your audience, for whom that word is beyond the pale.

Im out of this thread. Its no place for an angry brown man. Its muted.

For anyone who doesn’t know about it, here’s a cliff notes version of one particular event.

Hey Shiva - here is a much more in depth article on the Mass policewoman fired for posting in support of BLM:

I don’t really know where this goes, but I saw it and it moved me so much I had to put it somewhere.

Man, that didn’t make it any better.

No it doesn’t but it’s a good article that lets you know the policewoman a lot better than a tweet ever will. Give a much deeper perspective. Good local writing that you wont’ find on the major news networks.

Lot of footage coming out of Rushmore, mostly cops just arresting people randomly for being Natives near as I can tell. No real conflict so far other than the arrests that don’t seem legit.

Now they’re forcing back press with riot shields, so maybe I spoke too soon.

Not in favor of a name change, but also admit I’m biased being a fan of the team. Just… don’t listen to the idiots who want to change it to the Spiders.
