Oh, c’mon - the 1899 season was … um … “historic!

Oh hey I see you’ve met the Dakotas, please enjoy your stay

History aside, Spiders are an underused mascot (I see you Richmond). Hopefully they don’t become the wildcats or warriors or something super generic like that, but most anything is better than what they have. All this applies to the Washington NFL team as well, except you can remove “most” from the last bit.

Cleveland’s also had MLB teams known as the Blues, the Forest Citys, and The Naps.

The Naps is kind of a kickass throwbacky nickname. And the Blues is pretty great, too, say Chelsea and St. Louis fans.

I have always been a fan of ‘Orange’ as a team name, though that might cause some confusion on the internation stage.

31 players and 7 staff tested positive over 17 teams. Honestly less than I expected.

It’s 1.9% of players and 1.2% of all players and staff tested. Which is…

  1. per one epidemiologist I follow on twitter because he knows what he’s talking about, about what you might find in a mass, random test of the population at large in the US right now, and

  2. higher than the EPL on intake in May (they were at .8%), but not that much higher. Certainly in the ballpark, pardon the pun.

It won’t be easy and players will have to think differently about everything that is a part of their regular routine. But it also seems clear that they can maybe do this. It’s a matter of if the players and staff have the discipline to do it, and if MLB’s protocols are rigorous enough.

In the EPL, each week they’re catching just 1 or 2 cases out of nearly 800 twice-weekly tests of players and staff. Which maybe implies a little bit that once the competitiveness of actual play being underway happens that players (at least in some sports) will take this seriously.

(Also, I am realizing that I would 100% own some Cleveland Naps merchandise. Especially if they had an alternate weekend uniform with “Napoleons” fully spelled out across the chest. Those would absolutely kick ass.)

Speak of name changes, I like the ring of “Dan Synder’s Washington Sadness Machine:”

They have to go with Warriors. All DC needs to do is rename the Nationals to the Rogues and the Capitals to the Clerics, and they’ll have a full adventuring party.

Not to be that person (okay, I am totally going to be that person) but shouldn’t that be Priests, not Clerics? Assuming that we are using 2nd Editions Dungeons and Dragons Grouping - Warriors (made up of Fighter, Paladin and Ranger) Wizards (Made up of Mage and Specialist), Rogue (Made up of Thief and Bard) and Priest (Cleric and Druid).

I didn’t want to offend the Catholics.

If anyone is interested, I put together a Flickr album of the photos I took in Seattle’s CHOP/CHAZ. These were shared in the general photos thread, but I thought it might be worth linking them here.

Those are some terrific photos!

Shit, that’s really considerate of you. I should have realized that from the start.

Very ‘conservative’ indeed.

Oh, he’s also a virulent anti-masker, shockingly.

Yeah, really great job with those photos! Man, those are just amazing.

How about Spiders from Mars?

These are remarkable.

Can someone tell me what excuse the police are using to arrest members of the press? Isn’t it illegal to false arrest someone?
