I honestly think it might just be where they always rest their hand, and I’m really not sure whether that’s better or worse.

I guess they are worried a kid may pull the gun to play with, it looks bad but there’s a reasonable explanation.

I think @wisefool is likely correct - note that the strap on the holster is secured, not open, so although the officer’s hand is on the gun, it’s not actually ready for an instant draw.

Yeah, that does make sense given the configuration. Wow, my own benefit flew right out the window over the course of this, it seems.

It’s a good reminder that there are legitimate safety reasons for how police officers conduct themselves… but I would prefer that scenario without the presence of guns.

Since mid-May I’ve been the presence of 2-3 police officers (rotating through from what seems like a pool of about a dozen) that are stationed on-site every day of the week.

I have not yet seen one of them rest a hand on their sidearm. They do like to grip the straps of their vest, though.

Although neither of those guys seem to be wearing a vest. And the way that dude is resting his hand on the weapon does not seem comfortable to me. My personal feeling would be its an unconscious “be alert and ready” thing that’s at the root of so many incidents.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d be very nervous around a cop with his hand like that.

I think people put their hands on their guns to 1) remind everyone that the guns are there, and 2) reassure themselves that the guns are there. I think they even do that subconsciously; we behave the way we do because we have been taught to behave that way, whether deliberately or accidentally. I’m pretty sure we could find millions of images of cops / good guys standing with their hands on their guns that way, from movies and TV and actual news.

It’s like pregnant women resting their hands on their bellies… because they’re there!

But that habit is significantly less deadly.

Which thread to put this in? There are so many. I guess it fits here. I just saw someone on FB share this series of panels from The Immortal Hulk, which started in 2016. Marvel is good at this stuff when they want to be. !

Concept: Great
Hulk: looks like shit

Seriously, wtf is up with the hulk in that last frame? He’s got a goiter or something?

Maybe Mike Krahulik is drawing him now?

goddamn, you guys are brutal.

Can’t unsee it

Good writing. Never knew someone looked for a retirement home for The Hulk. I’m not sure that Hulk Smash was ever better accepted than BLM protesting. As I recall the military lined up cannons to shoot at him.

Wasn’t that the whole idea behind Planet Hulk? Drop him somewhere he can live out his life without doing any damage?

Thanks forthat post.

In that scene, the Hulk had just battled… um… I think the Absorbing Man? Something like that. Anyway, he was literally skin and bones with his flesh hanging off of an emaciated frame.

So he was supposed to look like shit.

But yeah, that was really well-written sequence.
