My older brother on the AM news show in Portland, OR this morning tying the causes of the American Revolution to BLM and the current situation with federal LEO in that city.

Acting Secretary acting like he understands words.

Thanks for the tip. I don’t usually watch KATU in the mornings.

Ok I don’t watch much live TV period.

Congrats to your brother.

If you dress your units up like military and they’re not military then that makes them paramilitary.

We don’t talk politics that much, and I figured that him being a well-off doctor and living in rural Missouri and such…well, it’s possible that despite growing up in a household where FDR and Harry Truman were almost beatified some of that could’ve worn off after a bit. :)

Imagine my surprise at hearing him call southern slave-labor plantations what they were: concentration camps.

Sorry for the obnoxiously big post, but this is some encapsulation of Wednesday night in Portland:

Something that I know Qt3 will appreciate:

It was nice of Ted to come down for his photo op and then leave so that his cops could tear gas people.

But they don’t call him Tear Gas Ted without reason. After all it’s his goons that have done the vast majority of it.

Goddamn this guy is too freaking awesome.

What he’s saying resonates, but I think that the real reason he got so much attention is that he just took the beating like he was made of stone.

Sure that is what attracted the initial attention, but then it was about how he is a Navy Veteran (complete with graduation photos of a young, beefy boy), then finally when it was revealed he looked like a sweet kitten grandpa. That was the moment the story stuck and our attention lasted more than 15 seconds.

What I don’t get is why he got beat to begin with. And the pepper spray. It looked like he was just standing there. Lots of discussion about how he took it, and not so much discussion about busting the guy who did it.

There’s basically no way to identify who did it. Some random masked dude from ??? federal agency.

He probably got beat on because they told him to move and he didn’t. Don’t you lay a beating on someone if you ask them to move and they don’t? I know I do! It’s the civilized response!

Thanks @crispywebb I’m not a fan of Ted Wheeler and this tweet sums up why

On the other hand, when the establishment politicians decide it’s time to join your anti-establishment movement, I think you’ve won.

It’s been 56 days. Where is any policy change that Ted has put foreward? Oh that’s right, none.

And you would think Wheeler, if any mayor could, would be able to implement changes. Given he is also the PPD commisioner.

I think he probably will. It won’t be enough, of course, but it will be far better than standing behind the goons and cheering them on.

The federal “police” in Portland behaving like poorly trained rent-a-cops? There may be a reason for that.
