In this case, the violent thugs are the ones with Federal badges.

Well the PPB is still there, but they’re mostly hoping people forgot about them while they were resting up.
Odds are the people of Portland have not and the PPB will be back to using violence on them again soon.
To be fair, that’s a terrible area of town. Like an area you might panic about if you accidentally found yourself driving in that area. So an ATF agent discharging his weapon wouldn’t be the most surprising thing. Which doesn’t mean there wasn’t something shady going on. Just that that area of town makes that a higher bar, IMO.

Sometimes you just gotta slash tires and break car windows. You know, to keep the peace.
Sometimes you gotta mace Press for looking at you. You know, to keep the peace.
Great segment. Preaching to the choir, yadda yadda. Still great.
Man this is seriously fucked up.

Initially, the women said, an officer told them the vehicle had been reported stolen and that the suspects were two Black men.
If two women fit the description of two men, then me saying ACAB is just definitely them fitting the description and they can stop crying about it. Why the fuck is the Secret Service going after stolen cars anyway?

Seriously, how does this fit into their jurisdiction?

The only way is if the car was transporting counterfeiting plates or something.
In which case the car’s legal status is irrelevant anyway.
I feel like they tried to go with the old fashion LEO excuse of “fit the description” without thinking it through.
They ain’t sheriffs or local cops, it doesn’t work for them.

Well, there were two African American men in the car. They were six months and thirteen months old. It’s an easy mistake to make on the part of the Secret Service.
It is never too earlier to teach black men about encounters with law enforcement.
The goddamn Daily Mail of all publications got some of the bodycam footage of the George Floyd officers.
Highlighting this story from Aurora. Police were looking for a stolen vehicle, pulled over a minivan with a black family. Per training, they put all the family members face down on the pavement, most of them handcuffed, even kids, while they ran the plates. Turns out the van wasn’t stolen and actually they were looking for a stolen motorcycle. (!)
Police chief blames it on training. They’ve trained all police offers to treat such stops as high-risk. Chief says they will change this, but to me it highlights the second half of the problem with policing (aside from racism): cops are taught that the safety of cops trumps the safety of ordinary people. There’s no reason to treat the pulling over of a minivan with a family as a dangerous situation except for the philosophy that cops must be kept safe no matter what.
Also, it’s nice that the police chief recognizes the problem now, but who was it who ordered the stupid training and policy in the first place?
Here’s video of the actual detention. Note the tweet says ‘held at gunpoint’ though there are no guns out in this video. What is there is bad enough.
On the plus side, all of the cops seem to get that this is wrong. Still, they did it anyway.
Also, they weren’t pulled over. The car was parked, and the family was getting back in to the car after learning a nearby nail salon was closed (it was a family girls outing).
What really got me about the story was the 14 year old girl. Her statement "It’s like they don’t care,” she told KUSA. “Who am I going to call when my life is in danger?” really underscores the problem. But like was said above, never too early to teach black people their place in life when it comes to police protection.
I don’t think the police chief who’s analysis is “our training is bad, so the solution is: we must give our officers more discretion to not follow the training” is in tune with the average American’s amount of trust in the discretion of police.
