In a boolean-logic universe unconstrained by any limits of time or processing power, you are correct. In the real world, and in the world of rhetoric, what you spend time on does indicate what you are focused on and what is important to you. That’s kind of been one of the main failure modes of the media over the last X years, that it always places equal emphasis on the current Republican atrocity and the current Democratic misdemeanor, such that the low information viewer can then say “well, I guess both sides are the same”.

Is my viewing accurate on this… that dude fired his weapon and was running away. He was chased and is tackled… turns around and shoots again… then is allowed by the police to essentially walk down the street with his hands up and is not detained?

That is indeed exactly what happened. He fidgets and grabs at his gun as well when he is either trying to surrender/be protected by the police. But the LEO’s aren’t interested in arresting the shooter, they have protesters to tear gas.

Brother, he walked up to a police vehicle, armed with a rile, at THE SCENE OF A SHOOTING, but was fine to go. Meanwhile breaking up a fight gets you shot 7 times in the back and neck. C’mon DUDE!

That guy clearly wasn’t the only person with a gun there, man. You can hear a bunch of other folks shooting all over the place. I think they were more concerned with getting to where folks were shot.

You gotta consider that the cops didnt’ see stuff from the perspective of the guy holding the camera. They were coming from way down the street when that happened.

Here, in the Black Lives Matter movement thread, I see a massive disparity in the way white suspects and black people are treated. I’m fairly sure this disparity is a right at the top of BLM protesters stated goals. The cops had people pointing out the shooter to them, pretty easy since he was standing next to the patrol car. Had he been black he would have been violently detained, with a high chance of death. Since he was not, he was allowed to leave the scene of the murder he committed with a still smoking gun. Now there’s some optics.

That video clip just has me almost shaking with rage. You’ve already summed it up, but here we are at a protest over a black guy getting shot in the back SEVEN TIMES opening his car door. SEVEN TIMES. No physical restraining, no arresting, SHOT IN THE BACK SEVEN TIMES.

So people hit the streets to go protest. And during this protest, this guy shoots people. As he runs away, he shoots more people. And cops see the color of his skin and let him stroll by. I mean he literally has a smoking gun at a scene of a shooting but you know, we can’t be sure it was him. Maybe it was someone else, we just don’t know. We better let him walk by while we make sure.

Just… rage. Rage about the poor father who last I heard was paralyzed and in surgery after breaking up a fight because of the color of his skin. Rage at this guy just skating past because of the color of his skin. Rage at the epidemic of police brutality this country is enduring. Rage about the fascists supporting this shit.

Fuck, I just want to break something. And if my pampered white ass is feeling this way in the comfort of my air conditioned home while I sip coffee and write code and continue to draw a paycheck in these times I can only imagine what the disenfranchised are feeling. I can easily see a scenario where after watching shit like this, protestors think it’s a wise precaution to start going out armed. And a whole lot of armed angry people is going to be a powderkeg that seems to be sure to explode at some point.
