Queried a coworker what his thoughts were to get the conservative perspective. Posted here for I don’t know what reason, just in case anyone was curious what the perspective of a conservative (but not in the hardcore Trumper cult) is.
- These players and others need to stop rushing to judgement. Heard speculation that maybe the guy the cops shot was reaching for a knife, so maybe they were just protecting the kids.
- Doesn’t understand what message such a boycott sends since it will just upset their fans.
- Why didn’t they just kneel in a circle before the jump ball.
- We can’t assume guilt of the police or anyone else. People need to take a deep breath and realize justice takes time.
Disclaimer: While obviously we have major disagreements, I like this particular coworker a lot so I’m not trying to sandbag him or anything. He’s at least willing to listen and acknowledge counterpoints (many of which I brought up) which is more than I can say for 99% of the Republican party. That being said, yeesh.
I wish I could be this optimistic.
Unfortunately the people that need to be reached just … don’t … care.
In a few days or hours there’ll be another situation where some BLM protesters do something impolitic and we’ll be back to “both sides do bad stuff”. They’ll always find something to reach for to excuse facts that don’t fit their world view.
