Think this lady would be alive if she were black?

She might just be crippled.

She is so lucky she only got tazed. And boy oh boy did she deserve it.

Guarantee this woman talks about lawless thugs at dinner. If they only would have obeyed police commands they would still be alive. Yadda yadda.

She’s crazy and impossibly white, but I don’t think that cop needed to draw his pistol to approach the car a second time. As it is, he put it away anyway when he realized he wasn’t actually going to shoot her, but it is a serious escalation which was IMO unwarranted and increased the chance of a deadly encounter unnecessarily.

Have to admit that was sort of satisfying. What a horrible person.

She very likely would have been shot if she were not white, for sure.

You never know with crazy people. She did, after all, flee when she was told to get out of the vehicle. I would imagine that cops should treat all people that way, black or white.

If you are driving a vehicle in defiance of the orders of a policeman on foot, that is interpreted as wielding a deadly weapon against the policeman, and people are absolutely shot in that circumstance.

Well not if you are an older white woman… apparently. She’s lucky to be alive, but it’s not like she or a lot of people realize that… at all. They think it’s just a right they have and even then probably won’t recognize a lot of other people don’t have the privilege of having a cop decide not to shoot early on and holding on to that.

Yeah, like I said above, there is a 0% chance this woman hasn’t passed judgement on victims of police shootings, in the police’s favor.

I shoulda been a betting man, lol.

Yet he put the gun away almost immediately, even though not one thing about her behavior had changed. I think even he realized he didn’t need it and that it couldn’t favorably impact the outcome.

You are describing the problem, of which I am not ignorant. But saying a car can be a weapon isn’t synonymous with thinking I need to draw my gun if someone is in one.

In this case, he was approaching from a safe angle; she could not have hit him with the car. Nor did she seem likely to, as he clearly realized when he put the gun away.

We ought to be able to agree, I think, that cops are too damned willing to step up the stakes in these encounters.

Not sure… I have the impression that the car had been moving and she put it in park at that point, signalling she was not driving away, and made to open the door. It’s hard to tell from the video.

I mean we can debate whether the officer was justified in drawing his service weapon in response to the threat of his suspect, but the real story is if that women had been black, she would be dead, the body cam footage mysteriously erased, and Fox telling us she was no angel.

Don’t forget Blue Lives Matter. We’d also be having yet another discussion about how many officers died over the years, just to be sure if someone didn’t buy the story they’d feel compelled to side with the police anyway.

All of these things are true.

What’s to say a crazy old white woman in a truck wouldn’t have a gun?

Nothing. So why did he put the gun away without knowing whether she had one?

Police should err on the side of ratcheting up the stakes for violence seems to me a strange idea for law enforcement and a big part of our current policing problem. That is all.
