I’m not sure if this in response to the NY times article I posted (written by Kevin Kruse - who is a great historian I follow on twitter btw), but in case it is, my response is absolutely not. I hope you read the article!
In fact this article points out that as late as the 1990’s, this continued to happen, and most likely is still happening - right under our noses, without people recognizing it.
Well, the latest Patriot Act from Hasan Minhaj is about why public transportation in the US sucks, and how that has a different impact on different people.
Spoiler alert, it’s worse for minorities. And people are fighting public transportation, and they probably take that into account.

This was not a response to your post or that article, specifically. It’s the fact that there are so many people out there who either don’t believe we’ve had systematic problems for generations and, no it’s not ancient history or water under the bridge, or those who acknowledge it and then systematically try tell others how they should and should not respond to that information, often with more consideration given to those who benefited from the problems instead of the perspective of those who were targeted by it.
So more like a general reply to this is more information that supports what’s been said for generations, that these problems exist, they continue to be problems, they’re not race cards or anything made-up… and I’m still expecting the general population to shrug or start to worry about whether or not people will get hurt feelings about how people react rather than… actually start to do something about it.
I catch this tomorrow. I prefer watching this on Netflix, but it’s cool how full episodes and mini episodes end up YouTube.

I should put this into the income equality topic, just to keep things in perspective but I’ll keep this sort of thing here, for now.
As Popehat astutely observed, “What’s the point of doing this job anymore, if I can’t execute unarmed civilians for misdemeanors?”
John Oliver talks about the role race (and sex) plays in the medical care that women, black men, and black women receive.
Sounds like he almost starts to lose it after the black guy talks about his wife’s death.

Anyone notice what he said at around 4:00 mark. Yes, this slightly cross topic talk but I do want to point it out because the terminology he’s using is not as rare as others thought it was.
Also, yeah getting quality care in our healthcare system… gonna take a lot more than giving everyone insurance. You could show up waving cash and still be treated like garbage if the providers there auto assume the worst of everything about you before you even get to say anything.
Also when you are biracial, and the medical provider starts telling you numbers, averages, for both the white and black populations, and you kind of ask so where should I be… I often wonder if they just pick one right there on the spot. I am starting to suspect there isn’t really a standard.
I picked up on that too! He kind of threw that out under his breath, but it was the first time outside of the other thread that I had run into that.
I imagine that there just aren’t good stats on bi-racial folks just yet, though the numbers are growing. If I were a doctor, I’d probably take the most pessimistic number and advise the patient to go with that… even though logically you’d kind of expect the opposite.

The good ones probably do this. They just seem surprised every time I ask the question, but my area is not diverse. It does seem like sometimes always shooting for the tightest just has me spending a lifetime of trying to achieve goals, some of which, might not even be realistic for me.
We should have enough bi racial groups now, any combinations, to start studying but man as much as I knew the data for minority groups suck, I am even more discouraged because they’re doing a worse job with the groups that have been around forever as it is.

More states are trying to protect black employees who want to wear natural hairstyles at work
I have a terrible, terrible idea for a rom-com.

“She has a medical condition that we are working on getting resolved and he says, ‘what medical condition, she has a sleep disorder, sleep apnea,’ and he says, ‘well I have sleep apnea and I don’t behave like that.”
For God’s sake, she’s 6. These adults…
But we have data that says minority children are not allowed to be children for very long and are treated as adults which just equates to, being punished by adults as if they were adults instead of children, not afforded innocence.
