It’s a Doucette thread so it’s massive.

All this over whether something was multi-player or not? Just imagine how he would react if the lead character was female or gay or black.

This is the absolute, ironclad guiding principle to understand the right wing in the U.S. at this moment in history.

Turns out that thing Doucette was talking about… was illegal and he found out.

Can someone parse this out?

I’m guessing it’s got to do with the UNC system basically paying off a racist Pro Confederate group of nazis to take the problematic Silent Sam statue off their hands, claiming they were being sued and forced into it, except maybe they agreed to pay off the nazis without actually needing to, but just cuz they like nazis, I guess.

See also the private investigator they hired to pretend UNC campus police did no wrong when they abused anti nazi protestors at the statue protests last year. Dude claimed both sides of the protests were really equally at fault.

Pretty much. From what I gather they shirked their fiduciary duty and people know about it.

Meanwhile in Italy, Serie A (Italian soccer league) launch their anti-racism campaign

Oh my god. What the hell? I am nearly speechless.

Unholy bleeding fucknuts.

Somebody really doesn’t get the idea of anti-racist ads. That should cost a few people their jobs.

The thing that’s funny is that the guy who drew them is apparently just a guy who likes drawing monkeys and had been doing it for like 6 years.

I keep getting a mental image of some simpleminded idiot who doesn’t know why folks are mad at his pictures.

But whoever was organizing this… Maybe don’t pick the artist who literally only paints monkeys?

This one has to be malice, rather than incompetence, right?

I’m legitimately curious what the pitch was for the images. Like, what was the joke/reference the thought they were making?

From the article:

“I got so angry that … I got an idea,” Fugazzotto said. “Why not stop censoring the word monkey in football but turn the concept around and say instead that in the end we’re all apes?”

Like they say, never assume incompetence when malice is obvious. :)

How not to do it:

Millions of people globally, a vast majority of them Africans, suffer from sickle cell disease. Researchers have worked for decades on improving treatment and finding a cure, but experts say the effort has been hindered by chronic underfunding,

I learned about this disease when watching Dr. Quinn the Medicine Woman as a teen.

Yeah, it’s likely that sickle cell is actually an evolutionary adaptation, arising in populations where malaria was common.

People with sickle cell, while having complications that shorten their lifespan, are also naturally resistant to malaria due to the deformations in the blood cells, and malaria had a much more acute effect on lifespan.
