The Bridge (FX)

New series is starting up tonight. Kind of seems like a US-Mexican border police odd-couple-ish drama involving potentially some very psychopathic people, but looks interesting at least.

This looks really good. I heard good stuff about the original series set on the border of Denmark and Sweden though I never got to see it. Probably have to DVR this one so my wife and I can watch.

LA Times gave it a guarded review - starts okay, trails off a bit by the third episode, but three out of 13 episodes isn’t quite enough to definitively decide. So, rates it worth try. I’ve got it set to record - as noted elsewhere, network TV is such a wasteland of reality shit-shows at the moment that I’ll give it a shot. And besides - Helen of Troy!

I was going to watch it until I saw the description that gave details on the American female cop. I am sick to death of the cliched “cop with mental problems that somehow manage to make her/him better at their job, but also make their lives miserable.” It has become a massive TV cliche in every cop (and many other types) of shows on TV these days, and it is boring me.

Champions Limitation - to pay for all those skills, you have to take some limitations. Drug addiction? Check. Obsessive-Compulsive? Check. Aggravating personality? Lots of checks. Foreigner? Check. Sexual addiction? Check. Girl with a dragon tattoo? Check. Aspergers? Hmmmm, that’s gotta be worth some points…

A decent first episode. Definitely worth a good look.

Definitely decent but I had hoped it would be better. Pacing seemed clunky at first but I guess the first chunk of any new show can be tricky, and they probably need a few episodes to find their rhythm.

I really like Diane Krueger as an actress, but I felt she was overdoing it a bit at first. Again maybe they felt they had to idiot-proof people knowing her quirks, so hopefully it smooths out more as the season continues.

Haha, you are getting this in an Americanized version now? You guys need to open up a bit and watch things with subtitles, instead of just re-making stuff all the time! This was a danish television series called “Broen”, which means The Bridge and it was okay - Mostly because of Kim Bodnia, some of you may know from Refn’s Pusher series amongst other great stuff (Nightwatch for one, which you guys also shamelessly copied). I guess its kinda nice for Kim Bodnia, that his stuff gets redone like this.

Anyways - nice to hear its okay. Maybe we get to see it here again sometime :-D

It’s not necessarily the easiest thing to get Danish TV shows with subtitles in the US.

Way ahead of you, pal: this version has subtitles. :-)

Oh I know, guys - Its just friendly teasing. Its nice when our small country produces something of interest to the US.

IF anyone is interested, Unblock US is VPN a service I use which allows you to use a new DNS setting and lets you change country on your netflix. This means, you can set your dns settings to Denmark and you’ll get the danish version of Netflix, where Broen is ;-) As as aside, Netflix is totally cool with this, saying that it doesnt matter to them what country you are seemingly in.

The only problem I have with TV from your area is that you have some law that stipulates that every tv show or film from the Scandinavian regions has to include at least one Skarsgård. I understand that Stellan Skarsgård is almost literally the father of Scandinavia (recent studies I made up have shown Skarsgård DNA present in well over 85 percent of the population), so I guess it can’t be helped. However, the Skarsgård infestation is now making its way overseas and we’re getting Skarsgård’d left and right here too.

When does it stop? When…does…it…stop?

I’m about halfway into the pilot and it’s OK so far, except for the truly egregious translation of the script into Spanish where the characters are speaking it. Example: no native speaker would EVER say “Es tu día de suerte” for “it’s your lucky day.” One would say something like “hoy te ha tocado la suerte” (lit. “today it’s your turn to be lucky”).

Grrr, the problems of being multilingual.

Second episode and they’re not showing any sign of doing just that. I find myself watching the show in spite of her character. It doesn’t help that I feel Krueger just doesn’t have the chops for a character that HAS to be incredibly nuanced or she becomes a caricature.

But I really like Demian Bichir and I hope this series makes him a break out star. He fills his role with such incredible ease I forget I’m watching an actor. I never get that with Krueger.

The other thing I like is finding out Matthew Lillard is getting old.

The story is interesting too, so I’ll stick with it…even if I find myself hitting fast forward whenever Sonya displays yet another personality trait that feels like it was cribbed from Tropic Thunder.

I’m enjoying this so far. Is anyone else still watching?

Who’s Matthew Lillard? Is he Creepy Bearded Guy?

BTW, the show has pretty much established that he’s the killer, right?

Lillard is the reporter with the drinking problem. He was in Scream and played Shaggy in the Scooby Doo movies, pretty decently in my opinion. I’ve always liked the guy for some reason I can’t quite put my finger on.

To answer the Dude’s question, I’m still watching but not the latest one. Still DVR’ed, so the missus and I will probably catch it this weekend.

Just watched last night’s episode. Maybe Beardy McCreepypants isn’t the killer after all.

If I were to guess who the killer is at the moment, then I’d go with two killers working together and I would think one of them would be working in the department. Tim Cooper (the younger mustached detective) and perhaps someone he has hired on the other side to throw the other detectives off the trail when he needs it. Maybe he’s hired that psycho Mexican guy, looking at IMBD his name is Hector Valdez.

Pretty decent show so far. I agree with BennyProfane, I am getting sick of “cops with OCD”. Seems like every police procedural has a lead detective/cop with OCD or a similar problem, and, of course, with some form of super memory skill. I will say that it seems like they’ve toned her “problems” down a bit over the last couple of episodes though.

Heh, I briefly suspected the “porn-stache” cop when the other two had to leave the girl they’d found.

Where else have I seen the FBI guy who met his untimely end?
