What a fantastic ending.
I finally took one of my stable of characters through the endgame. Bioware did a great job with it – those final conversations with the companion characters provided excellent closure. Emotions, humor, the whole bit. It’s been a long time since I enjoyed a game this much, and I’m stunned by the amount and quality of character development.
Also, “Pickle juice… Mmmmmm.” Oghren is awesome!
Still not nearly as good as BG2 or Planescape, though.
It’s funny how far we’ve come… and how far we’ve fallen.
I got through the initial town hub, the mage tower hub, the elvish ruin hub and now I’m at the dwarf hub. I know I’m going to have to wander around talking to NPC’s for another hour or two before I can get back to the combat. It’s a great game and all but I really wish Bioware would move past the whole hub system.

New DLC announced; you play as Leliana and it covers some of her backstory prior to the events of Dragon Age.

Huh. I wouldn’t have expected it, but I think that’s a somewhat interesting approach to DLC IF it’s got some decent length to it. Much better than the “play as Darkspawn” approach. I wonder what the reviews are going to say.
I like the idea of it a lot - I guess we’ll see how well it works out. I actually like the fact that EA/BioWare is trying different things with the DLC - I just haven’t been very happy with the resulting products - but the ideas have been decent.
Okay, this sounds like a decent idea. I didn’t think they could announce any DLC that would interest me, but I might have to get this one. Leliana was one of my favorite characters.

I’ve read that DA for Xbox is the inferior version. However it’s currently my only option - would you still recommend it?

It’ll be fine. The difference is primarily the lack of being able to pull the camera back to an “old school” tactical view, but you generally don’t use that view much anyway. Otherwise (aside from whatever graphical differences and moddability) the versions are the same.
I recall there being other differences, like enemies coming in waves instead of all of them spawned at once which makes the game significantly easier on console.
Textures look like ass compared to the PC version.
Textures look like ass compared to the PC version.
And it’s on sale on steam today for $26.79.

huh? PC version of the game had textures that looked like it was made in the old Doom engine… The game isnt pretty, but its still great.
Now I’ll admit that I’m one who’s good for a bit of hyperbole every now and then, but that crossed the line even for me, lol.
Here are some comparison shots(hold your cursor over the source you want to see)
PS - the PC version looks better (imho), but more importantly it gives you access to some excellent mods.
PPS - I personally think the digital deluxe version is absolutely worth the difference in sale prices ($33.49 vs. $26.79).
Hello guys, just a few questions. I recently switched from the 360 to the PC version (thank god, after playing the PC version I could never go back-totally different game), but I can’t decide what character to settle with. I think I am going to go with a mage in the expansion, and I really enjoy the weapon skills, so I decided to mostly replicate my 360 build-a high str/dex low con dual wield warrior. I wanted to have two swords AND wear plate. I know, I’m quite the rebel.
Here is my question though: is the warrior going to be the single best option for that, or is the rogue actually going to be a more efficient damage dealer? Please keep in mind that a. I genuinely forget about stealth 75% of the time and usually just charge in regardless, and b. I really want to use two swords or 1 sword 1 axe-even though there are some very powerful daggers, I don’t particularly want to use them. One thing tempting me to stick with the rogue is honestly that I vastly prefer the class mastery skills the rogue has to the warrior-none of which seem interesting or useful (except reaver, but I am playing a goodie goodie). So, any thoughts on best class to go with here?
I even rolled a mage last night just to take him through the intro, and I have to say, it is enormous fun playing a mage on the PC. I can’t imagine I would have time to play the game again, but I definitely at some point want to play as a pure mage, because they kick ass!
Also, in reply to Razgon: I don’t know what resolution you are playing, but at 1900x1200, Dragon Age is absolutely gorgeous. I actually sat back and looked at the bridge walking into Ostagar and was stunned at how good at looked. The shadows and flames in the Tower of Ishtar were fantastic as well-even the player characters look very good. I would go so far as to say that DA is pretty beautiful on my PC.
Almost forgot, last question: I unfortunately have a non-Steam version of DA, but I want to buy the expansion DD, is there anywhere that’s compatible? I know I can’t do it on Steam…
I have a similar character as a rogue Assassin/Duelist with Sword and Axe. No Plate Armor of course. I would say in the damage departement that is nearly untoppable in melee.
Thanks Target-that’s mostly what I wanted to hear. I figure that I need 36 dex for my Dual Wield Mastery-I have 33 adjusted now, and I think 23 strength. I think Plate takes high 30s as well, so if I really want to, by level 14-15 I should be able to put on the blood dragon armor! Let me know if you have any recommendations for rogue armor that is not plate.
Thanks!
I think you’ve reached my knowledge level about this. I also thought warrior skills were a little boring too. They got some extra stuff in the expansion though.
You don’t really need plate armor, but if you want it for looking cool then go with your gut.
Thanks Tim, going to stick with the rogue and roll a mage eventually.
Of course I also decided to replay ME2 on 360, so with my 2 hours of free time a night I’m sure this will all go swimmingly!
Just remember some of the rogue skills are Cunning-based, which makes you dependent on a third stat.
