I’m doing the same thing. I’m still early in the game (Lothering), but so far I’m having a lot of fun with my mage. The only other character I’ve played was a two-weapon-fighting-rogue. That was a lot of fun, but I never really felt very powerful until around the mid-game. I like that my mage feels quite powerful right off the bat, in keeping with the lore.

I started playing this on release, but for some reason my interest waned and I stopped playing sometime near the end of the first town/chapter (highgate?), maybe around a third in to the game

I think it was because I found my character boring - an forest elf rogue set up as an archer. sitting back and plunk, plunk, plunk was rather boring.

I might restart as a mage (of the BOOM BOOM BOOM NUKE variety rather than heal + buff) or a dual wield character.

Is there a thought on the best dual wield build - warrior or rogue? (I could also get tempted by a 2H build even)

Not sure about how this patch effects it, but Cunning rogues used to be very very good. By midgame my rogue was basically running around one or two shotting things.

For two weapon go rogue. Definitely. They are at least as powerful as two weapon warriors and have more utitility.

This.

As with some previous Bioware RPGs, aspects of gameplay bothered me, but the writing managed to carry the game to the point where I was unhappy to finish it.

I’ve still not finished DAO, but resumed it again after a long hiatus. I think I’d be able to build a much better character and team. Currently I’ve been playing a mage, but have considered a rogue character.

I still think the courtroom scene at the end of Act I in Neverwinter Nights 2 was a better version of the Landsmeet from Dragon Age: Origins. If I hadn’t played NWN2 first, I’d probably have enjoyed the Landsmeet more.

I’m still working my way through the dwarven sections, though I’m near the end now. I think the big mistake they made in making this section so long was in not having a merchant somewhere along the way. There is the one guy, but he’s not easily accessible, being deep withinn one of the locations, and he can become unavailable depending on choices you make. Why can’t I trade with the Legion of the Dead guys and instead have to go all the way back to the city when my inventory gets full of stuff I don’t need? Throw in a Legion trader, and the length of this sequence becomes less of a problem.

I am still slowly making my way through my new PC playthrough (played about 15 hours of the 360 release and quit a few weeks later till I got a new pc). I am loving my dual wield warrior, and I am using a bunch of mods, respecing the NPC’s right off the bat while playing on Hard, which is a great balance.

So far I love the game all over again, far more than on the 360. The graphics are great, I love the tactical aspect of the combat on Hard, and the writing and plot is interesting enough to really make me want to come back for more. I am in the midst of getting SHale now and then off to get Wynne at the tower.

Unfortunately (well, fortunately) I have a new baby, so game time is limited right now so I am slogging through very slowly. It’s a shame too, because I am already (Seriously) planning out a mage playthrough because I think it would be so different and so much fun. I just truly love the combat mechanics and leveling trees of this game, and the great writing certainly would make it easy to come back to again.

Or maybe I will just change to a mage for awakenings, which I am excited to play! After this I have a ME2 replay, and a bunch of other stuff on the platter too, but I am really enjoying DA-it’s all I’m playing right now and I don’t regret it!

I sneezed and Leiliana’s Song was over. And it took place all in areas i had already visited? Bleh.

Some people complain about the graphics but i do enjoy the art style, it’s kind of a “realistic fantasy pastel” tint to everything. I’d much prefer that the game offer you an Oblivion style experience with the same handful of voiced characters though. Ferelden would have been much more interesting if it hadn’t been a handful of long corridors.

Warning to XBox users, don’t download the title update just yet, or you may experience a game freeze/lockup when loading a saved game or starting a new game.

For reference.

I’d somehow forgotten about the fade section of the Mages Tower part. Not sure how. About the only thing to look forward to here is how the different companion sections play out.

They better minimize fade and deep roads sequences in DA2.

There’s a skip the fade mod that gives you all the upgrades while skipping the whole section.

Just so you know, that update has been pulled and the previous update is now “newer”. In short, you won’t get the bad one. If you already have it, the new one will roll you back to the previous version and everything will be fine.

The problem seemed to be related to the new slim 360s and some of the more recent Elites. We have a fix for the issue and the new update is working its way through the testing and approval process.

I was thinking along similar lines after playing through the Landsmeet. Very comparable it was to the NWN2 courtroom scene. I’d have to go back and replay that courtroom one to refresh my memory, but that was such a great scene wasn’t it?

The Landsmeet was for me an incredible memorable scene - mainly due to the bad guy, who actually more or less convinced ME I was the bad guy, and he was just trying to save the land - as someone else said - awesome awesome writing, and an incredible voiceactor for him…man, now I need to go through the game again, just for that scene.

You know, as much as I loved ME2 (and I REALLY did), I’d have to say DA was more emotional and better at making me care about the characters. Shephards speech to save the universe didnt hold a candle to the Landsmeet.

Agreed. I finally finished DA tonight and it is such a great story and the characters are so well written. The only fault (other than the mediocre art design) is that I truly cannot stand the combat system. I am really looking forward to DA2 at this point, given that they have opted for a more hands on hack and slash combat system.

I hope they can come up with something really deep for combat, and it’s not so simple as Fable 2 style. (I love Fable but the combat really is a bit too simple).

Anything in particular? I ask only because I was pretty impressed with the set pieces.

I’m sure I’ve said this before but a few things.

Everyone seems to stand too rigid, kind of like they are puppets not people. The anatomy is off, as all the arms (specifically the wrists) are too long.

More than these niggles there is something that seems more renaissance fair than medieval fantasy about the overall style of everything. It was a bit incongruous to the serious tone of the story and characters.

Personal taste and all that, but I disagree with the last bit. Simply because of this - Shephard’s speech was a, well, speech. Landsmeet was you selecting a bunch of silent responses to a dirtbag. I mean, how good would the Presidents speech at the end of ‘Independence Day’ be if you just chose his lines from a dialogue wheel and saw the audience responses?

That’s not to say I didn’t like the way the Landsmeet played out, but playing the two all but back to back, I much prefer the voiced main characters.

I am about halfway through DA right now and just wanted to ask you why you hate the combat?

It genuinely is my favorite part of the game, just pushing past the incredible writing and lore and the awesome medieval backdrops.
