Maybe?

So this Melissa Howard thing is small potatoes, but I got quite a chuckle out of:

Howard’s campaign consultant, Anthony Pedicini, told the Washington Post that Howard’s husband had been hospitalized Friday night after suffering cardiac arrest. She is “focused on him right now,” he said, and not on “fake news.”

I just love that random idiot Trumpists think all they need to do is trot out the phrase “Fake News!” and everything will be OK.

It seems like a solid play for a GOP candidate these days is to not have a college degree and belittle those that do as ‘elites,’ so I’m not entirely sure what she was hoping to accomplish. Perhaps since she ‘graduated’ from Miami University (Ohio) she was hoping her potential voters would confuse it with University of Miami (Florida) to give her stronger local ties?

So her phony degree was in journalism? -rimshot-

She’s up against a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel in the primary, so she was probably a longshot with Florida GOP voters anyway. My older son recently graduated from Miami University (Ohio), maybe I should offer to Photoshop a better fake degree for her if she’ll pay off his student loans?

Though small potatoes in the world of today’s politics, I do find this rather distasteful. I teach kids who work their asses off to finish school and get their degree, legitimately.

She’s just toeing the party line, truth doesn’t matter as long as you get headlines and people read into it what they want to get you votes. Supposedly they want her to step down. It seems more likely she’ll elevate herself in the party because she is white, pretty and blonde and that seems to be the ideal for anyone in front of a camera for the GOP and Fox.

A candidate’s campaign manager sends a legalistic, threatening e-mail to a reporter:

We expect that you will provide us with advance notice of and a reasonable opportunity to respond to any negative allegation or claim you intend to publish about Adam, his family or his campaign. A failure to provide this opportunity will be viewed as evidence of your actual malice toward Adam.

… with the catch that the candidate in question isn’t some clueless write-in wannabe trying to sound like he knows a lawyer, but rather Nevada’s state attorney general Adam Laxalt. At best it’s legally laughable (news flash: only a judge can determine what qualifies as “actual malice” in a libel case); at worst it’s a naked attempt by a government official to intimidate the press.

“I would like to apologize to my family and my supporters for this situation. It was not my intent to deceive or mislead anyone. I made a mistake in saying that I completed my degree. What I did was wrong and set a bad example for someone seeking public service. I am staying in the race and intend to win and lead by example from now on.”

It’s amazing how easy it is for someone to unintentionally create a fake diploma, complete with a made up degree, like not even close to what the university offers, and then pose with it and not intend to actually deceive or mislead. Maybe I should fill my safe with Monopoly money, use it as collateral and then tell everyone it really wasn’t my intention to deceive anyone into thinking I have millions stashed away. Treating fake things as real is just my Sunday routine.

Oh man, this situation is just too pathetic to comment on.

Fake News

I also looked at those “heart attack” pictures she posted. It’s amazing how her husband didn’t even need an IV for that awful heart attack. Which… he’s had heart issues in the past, but this event was so obviously faked.

She’s a perfect match for Trumpers. Lies, cheats, rich, blond Fox News girl, in real estate.

What I did was wrong and set a bad example for someone seeking public service. I am staying in the race and intend to win and lead by example from now on.

White Privilege is a hell of a drug.

I’m assuming she’s going back to college to finish her degree then?

Currently, I’m guessing she skipped or didn’t pass an ethics course?

“I didn’t intend to defraud people by doing a thing that was probably kind of a pain in the ass to do and the only reason anyone would ever do it was to trick people.”

-some white girl, 2018

Anyone surprised?

Fake degree lady quits the race.

It’s probably just a condition of her new contract with the local Fox affiliate.

For what it’s worth, the Melissa Howard fake diploma story first broke on a conservative news site.

I saw that, but it’s a local site it looked like which might mean it is actually conservative, like the real use of the word, and not the GOP and alt-right thing we have at the national level.
