Do you really think Bart O’Kavanaugh was someone else in his book?

I’ve not read Mike’s book have you? I’m saying just because Kavanaugh was friend with a drunk party boy doesn’t make him a drunk party boy. Other than a single passage saying Bart O’Kavanaugh puked in somebodies car, (something which I suspect that vast majority of middle class kids have done) I’d have expected to see lots of quote of partying Bart. Feel free to get the book and prove me wrong.

As much as I hate to see this rolled out as a counter-argument – big surprise that’s exactly what David French said at National Review! – I don’t necessarily disagree. I fully expected there would be other accusations by this point. In fact, the lack of additional people coming forward is probably the strongest argument in support of the “she totally made it all up!” claim that his defenders are peddling.
But it’s entirely possible that as he went through college, then law school, then became a law clerk with an eye towards becoming a judge, he realized raping women would be detrimental to his chosen career. But, yes, to your point, I fully expected there would be more accusations by now.

Here’s a random tweet from a Kavanaugh defender. Not much different from it’s ok, he was young and drunk and he only attacked this one woman.
People suck.

There is a more plausible explaination that David French also advanced that she isn’t making it up, she is just mis-remembering, something that he found happened often in trials. Memory is a tricky thing. I’ve mention that I knew 1/2 dozen fairly famous people from college. In truth, there are two people I’m positive I knew, two I’m pretty confident, and two who I saw their names in the news saw they went to school at the same time I did and majored in Computer science and convinced myself that I knew them. If I had any type of anger directed at them, it won’t be hard for convince myself that famous person screw me over.

How many of those classmates physically attacked you?
It’s not the same thing.
The hoops men go through to justify bad behavior. And false accusations by some doesn’t automatically obviate all allegations. Ford has nothing to gain here but heaps of abuse.

So what you are saying is that because she believes that Brett tried to raped her that is going to make her memory more reliable, than my far more casual remembrances?
Sorry about the weird quoting mouse problems.

Traumatic events tend to do that. (I can’t speak from personal experience since I’ve not really had any traumatic events.) It doesn’t make them infallible, but she revealed this incident six years ago. It’s all but impossible to prove, but given BK’s obfuscations on other matters I don’t find BK credible at all

Yes, I get it the image of his evil look was seared into my brain when he shot my mother. AFAIK, all the science says that’s myth if anything traumatic events make our memory less reliable not more.
I think we have. There’s plenty of evidence that he lied repeatedly in his last confirmation hearing; lied about his involvement in the Pryor nomination provcess, lied about his involvement in warrantless wiretapping, lied about his involvement in stealing and using confidential Democratic documents. There’s a story circulating now that he’s about to be accused of lying about his own knowledge of the behavior of Judge Kozinski. He’s just made a statement that he never attended the party in question, the one where the accuser says his assault took place. That denial has to be a lie because he can’t possibly know whether as a teenager he ever attended a party at an unidentified house at an unspecified time with an unspecified guest list.
So we know what kind of person he is. He’s the kind of person who will break the rules, even commit crimes, in order to get what he wants.

Thanks for spelling that out.
Kavanaugh’s treatment of Monica Lewinski is also revealing.
Strange that French advances this theory by saying it is Ford’s memory which is misbehaving, and not Kavanaugh’s memory. I wonder if there could be some reason for him to land on that particular spot?
If trauma is causing the problem, what was the trauma? It can’t be true both that they were in the room and something happened (as she says) and that Kavanaugh was never in the room. If the latter is true, then there’s no trauma, and no reason for her to misremember. If on the other hand there was trauma, then they both were in the room, and something happened, and Kavanaugh is lying.
The weird assumption that a person is either “good” or “bad” suffuses this conversation. A person can be generally good and do a handful of horrendous things. I don’t care about BK’s “character”, or his “true self” or whatever.
Are there plenty of potential Supreme Court Justices that have definitely never attempted to rape anybody? Cool. Pick literally any of those. Is it unfortunate for BK that judgement as a teen prevents him from being on the Supreme Court? Sure, I guess. There are literally billions of people who will never be Supreme Court Justices, so world’s smallest violin, etc. He’s done nothing to be entitled to that position.

Well exactly, you are still responsible for your actions. If you committed sexual assault while blackout drunk, you could go to jail. Your victim would still be traumatized. Many lives would have been affected. You shouldn’t get to be one of the highest legal authorities in the most influential country on Earth.
I’ve been blackout drunk a few times: never raped anyone, assaulted anyone, or murdered anyone. I didn’t even drive or attempt to. I did once fall asleep on a stranger’s front porch and get hauled home by the cops, but–you know–no assaults or damage to other people.
I disagree. From the point of view of women who are raped, it doesn’t matter to her whether her rapist is a drunk frat boy or a sober one. If you rape when you’re drunk, you’re no less shitty of a human being. Alcohol doesn’t excuse anything.

Honestly, I doubt Trump knows a damn thing about him. He was probably fed a name and now he wants him to get appointed because he’s “his” guy.

Your second paragraph is the bottom line here. He has a crummy past. There has to be a better candidate to take this seat who can do all the awful things that will be expected of him/her. Get an actual paragon of Christianity who sits on a high court somewhere instead of this turd.
