The decline to moral bankruptcy of the GOP

You don’t hit someone 40 times with a claw hammer and not get charged with a serious assault or attempted murder charge. Yeah, someone pulled some major strings.

He’s married. I wonder if his wife knows about his past? I’d be uncomfortable living with someone capable of something like that.

A decade ago, the then-Beverly Hills teenager was charged with attempted murder in Los Angeles after hitting Harvard-Westlake School classmate Elizabeth Barcay over the head at least 40 times, splitting her skull open.

Tarsey, according to published reports, invited Barcay, the daughter of a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, to ride with him to Jamba Juice after a big exam.

Tarsey eventually parked the car and allegedly pulled a hammer from a backpack. He then started hitting her over the head, opened the passenger’s door and pulled her out while choking her before driving away.

According to the Times, Tarsey’s parents rushed him into psychiatric treatment as Barcay recovered painfully and eventually attended the school prom in a wheelchair.

At first, California prosecutors filed the case in juvenile court, but it was dismissed. They tried it again in adult court.

“In the end, I pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor,” Tarsey said. “It’s not the charges that matter, it’s what happens in court.”

Tarsey, 6 feet 2 inches tall, claimed self-defense.

This story gets all my WTFs.

I agree.

Just imagine if it was a black kid hitting a white daughter of a plastic surgeon. He’d still be in prison, probably.

Remember when I said it didn’t matter if they were next?

I was actually into it with Gaetz on his FB page earlier this week. He visited a local school and someone blasted him for not spending every waking moment working to repeal ACA. He replied stating that was his top priority. Which is where I jumped in with the NEJM’s study on the impact on repealing the Medicaid expansion and the likely 40k+ deaths it would cause each year. Heads exploded. Gaetz’s glibly ignored reality as the wingnut he is.

I’m fine with non-hypocrital votes that are consisent with views/ideology you express. I see nothing wrong with Texas Republicans voting down Harvey aid. If you campaigned on a platform of shrinking Federal Gov’t and you’re willing to vote that way, I can respect that, even if I don’t agree with the position. It’s a representative democracy after all. It’s guys like Cruz who nuke aid when others need it, but ask/demand aid for their state that are hypocrites. Same for any Republican voters in those states who were against federal aid before but who are suddenly looking for federal aid now.

Umm, I do. Mainly because it’s fucking stupid. No one campaigns on refusing aid because of a natural disaster occurring that no one could predict during campaign time. So towing the line of, “No, sorry folks, my ideology trumps acts of God,” deserves to be thrown out on its face immediately.

No, I see his point. If your philosophy is that the federal government shouldn’t help people who suffer disasters, then it shouldn’t matter if they are in your state or another state. The morally bankrupt ones are the ones like Cruz who vote against funding for disasters in New York, but in favor of ones in Texas and Florida.

I mean yeah, if you think the federal government shouldn’t help people who have suffered from disasters, then something is wrong with you, but at least you’re consistent.

i call bs on that, no way a politician gets a pic with a guy holding a poster without consent.

Nah man. If your fuckin philosophy’s logical endpoint is ignoring the catastrophic suffering of your constituents, either get a new philosophy or get the fuck out of politics and spare us your glorious logical consistency.

I understood the point of ideological consistency, but it’s a massive stretch going from fiscal conservatism and smaller govt to, “fuck aid when disasters occur because my political philosophy says x”. No one campaigns on that.

I still doubt I could stay in the same room with Cruz for too long before the SW Ohio redneck I’ve worked all my life to suppress didn’t threaten to permanently remove the smug from his face by rearranging it for him.

I’d commission a twice life sized painting of you to hang in every room of my house for the rest of my life, in memoriam, of course, after the Secret Service Swiss Cheesed you.

To me, even if you are a fiscal conservative, the federal government exists for exactly this sort of reason, dealing with things that are simply beyond the capacity of a state or local government to handle.

I agree. And this is why the federal government needs to be able to borrow rather than be hogtied by a balanced budget law.

Most fiscal conservatives would tend to agree. Disasters, infrastructure and military aren’t usually state issues. I guess some branch of it might see states prone to disaster as failures: if a hurricane wipes out Florida, maybe we shouldn’t have people in Florida. But the bottom line on that kind of logic doesn’t add up, Florida makes more than it costs to repair it ever so often.

The best supporters.

I don’t get it? Cruz liked that? Is that what it means?

I deleted since it was in a better place, but yes. Ted Cruz liked porn on Twitter.
