All of these answers… they bring a tear to this old man’s eye. ::sniff::

You guys…

Reading these responses out loud to the wife and we’re both cracking up.

Yeah. You’re in a room with Trump and McConnell. You have a gun with one bullet. What do you do? Tough call.

Hmm…

I admit I’m a bit uncomfortable with this line of humor. =/

Not comfortable with discussing violence against these two scumbags folks, even in jest.

Dont get me wrong they are both fascists and traitors but we rightly are appalled at the Republican party’s attacks on Democracy and calls to violence.

We are better than that.

So my answer is I would like them both to tread on a lego brick bare foot as they are brought to justice :)

Perfectly understandable. I, on the other hand, am not. As long as it doesn’t annoy anyone. If folks want me to stop, I certainly will.

But not in my head.

Even though I contributed to this, I totally agree - as Asimov said in the Foundation series - “Violence is the last resort of the incompetent”

Much more proper for things to be addressed at the ballot boxes, in arguments in the legislature, in the press and in the courts.

But where does simply imagining violence fit into that philosophy?

Am I just imagining my incompetence?

See, this is why it frightens me. Because I know, deep down, if something terrible and violent were to befall either one? I would feel excited. And that terrifies me.

The knowledge that I would celebrate the intentional death of another human being does not sit well with me.

Oddly I have no such compunction about wishing that one day I wake up to hear they had a heart attack.

So I stick to that. May they choke on a chicken bone.

You might have to ask Asimov about that - forgive me but I would rather not have a reply from him as that might mean we’re at the start of the zombie apocalypse ;) (as he died some years ago).

More like LeGuin.

Well not when someone is committing violence against you or you know others. I think we could’ve have gotten a little more violent with Nazis earlier and received a better outcome as a result… just saying you don’t have to wait for tanks to roll in through the front door for the competent to act… but we’re still a Democracy, and we don’t have to deal with Trump or McConnell violently.

Interestingly, WW2 was ongoing at the exact time that Asimov wrote those words. I think in that case he might have implied that the “incompetent” were the pre WW2 leaders such as Chamberlin who did not recognize the threat that Hitler and the Axis were and should have dealt with them more firmly before a fight could start. It is well known that the Germans had orders to retreat from occupying the Rhinelands if the French had shown any movement of their army to oppose it.

So the competent start right out of the gate with violence?

I’d prefer a baseball bat anyway.

I have always heard that Violence was the last resort of an igorant man. Then my brothers would hit me, because they learned scholars with Law Degrees.

I dunno you could just hand it to Trump and tell him it is a fake gun that isn’t loaded and I am sure someone gets hurt.

I certainly hope he finds the son of a bitch responsible for this.

No doubt he will dedicate himself to finding the real culprit. My guess is our super sleuth with start with someone in the Democratic party.

Well how typical of Ryan, and the GOP in general, to talk about the debt when not acting but when it’s time to act and own it, not give a shit.
