And an apology from me. For some reason I have struggled for motivation to actually play this game, so have not been doing the game any service. I must need a break from Dominions.

Thanks for offering to take over Akaoni!

Interesting…

… the games admin, who has been trying to build an alliance against Pelagia for the last few turns, now inexplicably changes nations… to add a formerly neutral nation to the alliance?

I hope not. I know this game has some pretty brutal diplo, but I hope we aren’t descending into the realms of outright abuse of admin privileges, that would be unfortunate

does seem a bit odd, but I’m sure there’s a good explanation?

Honestly it is nothing like that. Akaoni just reached out to me to question me over my continued staling and offered to take over if I was not focused on the game. And in the interest of full disclosure, Agartha had already committed to an alliance back on the 24th, so if something now comes of that, it would have anyway assuming I had played any turns.

If the players’ consensus is that this is an issue, I will keep playing.

I think the usual process would be to get a sub for the staling nation rather than an in-house player moving to the staling nation and getting a sub for their nation? I really don’t think anyone should keep playing if there heart’s not in it btw, so no presh to perform from me, sharaleo :)

I’d hate for Sharaleo to feel an obligation to continue playing when his mind isn’t really in it.

I also agree with psyanojim’s assertion.

What if BotBaddict makes Arco AI and takes over Agartha? Does that seem fair? Or DireAussie for that matter?

Yeah, the issue for me isn’t subbing directly for a new player. Thats all fine. Players come and go in a long-term game like this. Player burnout is expected.

The issue is switching of existing players - it hands the switching player a HUGE advantage in strategy, information and diplomacy, especially if they come from a still-viable nation. They effectively then have knowledge of two nations, and their former nation cannot oppose them without being at a serious disadvantage, since all their weaknesses are known. Plus all the diplomatic baggage from their past fights is carried over too.

I enjoy the brutal, anything-goes nature of in-game diplomacy. Thats all part of the fun.

But these kind of external, metagaming issues are one of my pet gaming hates.

Whoa. I had no idea that there were thoughts like this. My take on this is quite simple:
-Sharaleo is busy, and needs a sub.
-Niefel is pretty strong, and simple to play. Easily handed off to someone else.
-I have never played Agartha, not sure how they work, and not even sure what their situation is like. I have no idea if they are at war with anyone, for instance.
-There is no NAPs or anything between Agartha and Niefel.

Given all these, I thought (admittedly, a spur of the moment decision), to try my hand at Agartha and give the easier to run Niefel to someone else. Who could easily jump onto Agartha the same turn I hand it over, of course.

But given the concern, I will withdraw my taking over of Agartha.

Can we get a sub for Agartha, then?

So our options are:

  1. Ideally, a sub for Agartha who is new to this game.
  2. One of the existing smaller nations goes AI, and that player takes over Agartha.
  3. We have Agartha go AI.
  4. Sharaleo continues to try and squeeze in time to do his turn ( ie, no change).

Thoughts? I would love to have someone volunteer right now to take Agartha, so we can get back to the game. The original intent was to actually speed up the interval between the turns.

The game will now host at 23:03 GMT on Friday February 5th.

I agree, the Niefel to Agartha swap doesn’t sit well with me. There’s nothing really special about Agartha which would turn off a potential sub.

Agartha would be a strong nation with an active player - he’s unleashed the prisoned ones which means he has Alt 9. Very powerful!

At this time I’m not interested in taking over, I’m a little busy in this game called ‘real life’ at the moment. I’ll continue to harrass from the comforts of my Death throne ;)

I agree that options 1 and 2 would be best.

I’ll be out of town from Friday through Sunday evening and so will not be able to work on my turns until possibly as late as Monday afternoon (eastern US time). I’ll probably need a bit of an extension on the next turn.

If we have this conundrum after I come back from Japan, I’ll sub in for either nation and send Berytos to AI mode. After all, fighting Sauro is pointless, that is exactly what Psyanojim wants. OttheGreat, should you push that throne of mine, keep it very well guarded…

If we fix this problem before I head off (Feb 14), I’ll send Berytos to AI mode regardless. It’ll be sad to say goodbye to Buttercup because I know the AI will screw him up.

Let me be clear: Akaoni is staying with Niefel. There is no circumstance that I will be taking over Agartha.

I further propose that if Strato, Botbaddict, or DireAussie (curse real life, it sucks as a game) take over Agartha, something along these lines:
Assuming Agartha is not already in a war (dont think so based on what Sharaleo told me and what you guys are saying), Agartha takes no offensive actions for a couple turns to work out what is going on, and to reset the negotiations/alliances, etc.

What do you guys think about that?

UPDATE: Kelan has tentatively agreed to take over Agartha. Some of you might remember him as the Feared Cold Blooded Magic Marsh Master from…some other QT dominons game that I forget the name of.

How does that sit with the assembly?

No problems here

That works for me.

sounds like a plan

Kelan out from retirement after his Xibalba win? I’m happy with that.

Ok, I have the latest turn file, map set up, and took a quick look at the latest turn in game and the email has been converted to me.

I am off work for my normal day off tomorrow so believe I should still be able to get a turn in before the deadline in about 22 hours. It sounds like I am a free agent and free from NAPs and agreements, so let me know if I can be of service ;). I will browse the past few pages and review the situation now that I have a nation (I read some of it as you guys were posting the past weeks, but don’t really remember much other than an aquatic nation may be winning already :))

Oh yeah. Pelagia rules the seas for sure. That’s how it should be. Pelagia has some nasty beasties underwater. Not enough thrones or provinces to win in the sea though, and on land Pelagia has mermen in underpants :(

Land is where this will be won or lost, and there are far stronger land nations than Pelagia. Although Pelagias armies are always itching for a fight underwater :)
