… and thats game over

Is the game going to declare a winner and shut itself down, or should I turn it off on the llamaserver?

The game has declared the winner, and the score graphs are all visible

Heh, Pelagia got off to a slower start than I thought, but had a research/gem lead for most of the game. Interesting.

Well done, psyanojim!

Thanks Kelan! And thanks for stepping in (and killing Pelagias God in combat… argh)

Agartha was the only nation to keep pace with Pelagia on research, but looks like it didn’t have the gem income to do much with it. Those Poison Golems were nasty though! Those and Tartarians were the only thing that made Pelagias Pearl Kings think twice!

indeed. i knew you had it in the bag when i threw myself on your sword. seems like an age a go. well done

Thanks! I think Pelagia did have it in the bag underwater from quite early, but the land was a different matter entirely.

Watching quickened/buffed Shark Tribe Tritons tear those Rlyeh shamblers into sushi was loads of fun though. Those crazy Shark Tribe guys are ridiculous!

My favourite troops in the game for sheer carnage (on both sides)!

Congrats psyanojim! Looking forward to your AAR.

And thank you Kelan, for subbing in for Sharaleo, pulling you from your self imposed retirement from Dom4.

Haha, yes I have plenty to write about I guess. Was totally out of my ‘bless-rush’ comfort zone for this game. The build and nation choice was an experiment that turned out extremely well.

I think my favourite battle in that game was a fairly minor one with Nief - the one where 25 overconfident giants attacked Shark Tribe PD and got massacred! The giants fleeing from the naked Triton PD was funny too, but the Shark Tribe one was a total slaughter :)

When you see those Shark Tribe maniacs in action, and then imagine them buffed with mage support (18 attacks per combat square!!!), and then realise that they cost only 3 resources and Pelagia can pump them out from any fort in huge numbers…

… you start to see why Pelagia is so nasty underwater :)

Congrats psyanojim. You were the best ally and most traitorous of fiends :p It was a well deserved win, and if you end up in a game again anytime soon with me, I look forward to locking horns, or scheming, either way, with you again.

Thank you Sharaleo and Akaoni for hosting and organising the match. And DireAussie for the map which I thought was a fun map to play.

Yes, it was fun. I like to see my allies doing well… until they are no longer my allies :)

Buttercup is still close to the top of the Hall of Fame. Wonder how many kills she could have achieved if she stayed alive for longer!

In fact, speaking of the Hall of Fame, I’m amazed that Gravesoul is no. 1.

Who is Gravesoul, to have caused so much carnage? One of those pimped up Pearl Kings mage-thugs? Maybe an Ivy Lord, or a Tartarian, or elemental royalty???

Nope, just a boring Conj 6 ‘Summon Spectre’ Spectral Mage, with ES random paths. Spent half his time in the lab forging crystal gear for Mind Hunters, the other half teleporting around smashing anything that moved, then sneaking back to the nearest lab for more forging.

Funny how things work out. Also damned lucky that the only Spectre I summoned in the entire game was such a useful one :)

Curious as to why you never claimed the Throne of Misfortune you won from R’lyeh 15-20 turns ago - when it would have won you the game then?

Didn’t claim it initially because I didn’t want the misfortune, the luck 3/magic 3 was giving me huge bonuses. That was only my 4th throne, not the 5th, and I had a gentlemans agreement with Sauro not to grab any more.

After I finally took Niefs throne, I was curious to try out a couple more things (like Vengeful Water at Dom 10, Cold 3). Also wanted to see if you guys combined could stop me.

I’ve never liked Throne victories personally, and 50% seemed too low. I’m an old-school Dom 3 player at heart. :)

Meant to say, 50% felt too low, especially since I had that agreement with Sauro. So I also didn’t want to win until I had a 6th so I wouldn’t feel quite so bad about Sauro!

You guys going to war really gave me a moral dilemma, the plan was to split the Thrones with Sauro but he got bogged down on land then TNN attacked him (I think). I hate it when my allies fight :)

From my perspective, the key moment was when Nief convinced R’lyeh and I to stop fighting. I think the survivor would have been in a good position to challenge Pelagia. As it was, I played it safer, planning on taking the Arco territories Pelagia and I had discussed previously, without going to full war with Pelagia. By the time I had redirected my armies to the north, R’lyeh was already in trouble, and Nief’s offensive had sputtered wildly, and going to war with Pelagia would have been suicidal, so I went after the Sauro Ally. Finally attacked Pelagia anyways, after seeing the PPPP hadn’t claimed that 5th throne for awhile and figured, WTH. Pelagia giving Sauro an open route to my mainland didn’t help either, but that was rather easily rebuffed, as was his offensive to my East.

My big plan to hit Pelagia involved Master Enslave above - I figured if I could turn most of his army, then I’d have a nice 300+ army under the seas, backed by a bunch of Communioned Casters, and using his army(s) against him. Unfortunately Master Enslave got maybe 20-25, when I needed a 100+. I’d never cast it in a game, so that was fun - it’s the first time I’ve ever gotten to the late game in one of the Qt3 games, or any non-Disciples game really.

Looking at the score graphs, it’s pretty easy to divine when each nation went to war with Pelagia…

“Niefel sputtering wildly” - yes, that describes my game pretty much to a T. Every idea I had did not work out, and my frustration with Nief was so great I wanted to hand them over to someone else and try a different nation. Anything other than the too many Jarls that I built, which sucked up so many resources and maintenance. And I was loath to commit them, because they cost so much.

I guess I could have stayed in - I was mulling Astral Corruption and then Illwinter, but that would have screwed over my allies more than hurt Pelagia. But I grew to hate Niefel with a passion. It got to the point I didnt even want to look at the turns, while I daydreamed about Kailasa. Ugh…

Haha, it was a nice idea. And as I said, that was the highest underwater casualty count I suffered in a major battle. Oceania/Rlyeh barely even scratched Pelagia underwater.

Unfortunately, I was anti-magiced up to the eyeballs (especially after fighting Rlyeh), and had the ability to Gateway around 1000+ extra troops into that fort if I needed to.

Pelagias is quite simply the most magically mobile nation I’ve played out of any so far. 2/3rds of Pearl Kings can easily become teleporters (Cloud Trapeze or Teleport with the A or S randoms), and I had so many Mind Hunt/Gateway capable casters that it was ridiculous. I could get my most powerful caster/thugs and large numbers of units anywhere I wanted easily.

Yeah, I kinda noticed you getting angrier and angrier as your Gygjas were trampled into the mud by elementals, and your giants fled from naked tritons ;)

I think when I killed your Father Illearth, that was the final straw?
