The Pact faction, which I’m playing, has got a similar hook for the newbie quests. The first NPC mentions that someone at the harbour could use some help. No further push or hints.
But if you talk to that person, you are whisked to Bleakrock island which has all the low level quests in a nice, self contained quest line.

One more dumb newbie question (for now…):
Looting. When I run into a cave/room and there are urns, trunks, desks, cabinets, etc., and I open them up and empty out all the goodies inside, does the player who runs into the area seconds behind me see a bunch of opened and empty containers, or are containers/looting tied only to the individual, so multiple players can open that urn within seconds of one another and everyone gets loot? I’ve been assuming that it’s the latter, but I have seen areas where it looked like some (but not all) containers were already open and empty, which led me to wonder if I was being an enormous jerk to everyone around me when I clean a place out.
What about resource nodes? I have yet to actually see one, but do they empty/disappear for everyone when you use them, or will they still be “full” for other players after you’re done?

Hot damn, I need to get my grubby little mitts on that mod. Any idea what it was called (or is “bank stacking mod” the name of it)?
And yes, the research assistant is a godsend. So is the… I forget the name, but the Provisioner assistant that will highlight what recipes you don’t have and also pops up what recipes an ingredient is used for when you hover over it.
I’m not sure about containers. I’ve been wondering the same thing. But resource nodes and locked chests are first come, first served. They respawn fairly quickly though.

Urns, crates, and the like are instanced per player. Treasure chests and resource nodes are not, they will disappear once someone loots them. For resource nodes, the skills in the crafting lines that highlight nodes are helpful, especially at later levels. They tend to stick out more early on, but later ores like Ebony I have a hard time picking out from the terrain. Same with spidersilk. There’s also a mod out there (can’t remember the name at the moment, sorry) that will leave a pin on your map whenever you harvest a node, so you can remember where they’re at.

Does anyone here use the Templar’s Backlash skill from the Dawn’s Wrath line? This is the descriptions:
“Summon an expanding beam of pure sunlight to doom an enemy, storing all damage taken for 6 seconds and releasing it with a 33% increase.”
From reading posts about it, some people seem to think it stores all the damage that your character takes and others think it stores all the damage that the enemy takes. Which is it? I thought it stored all the damage that your character takes, then…I don’t know…explodes in an AE that harms enemies around you?
Also, if it stores the damage that your character takes, is it an absorb, or do you still take damage from attacks even through they were stored?
Am I reading too much into this?
What’s a good way to find Cooking/Brewing recipes? I’m level 9 and haven’t come across any and I have bags stuffed full of materials.

I typically find them in furniture like desks, nightstands, etc.

I don’t know, I have ignored that skill so far, are you finding it worthwhile?
AFAIK after you cast the spell at a rat, the game keeps track of all the damage done by you and other players to the rat as X, and then 6 seconds later the spell detonates and does X*1.33 damage to the rat (it’s not an AOE.) The damage also has a cap.
It’s an alright spell IMHO. Decent opener against anything tough enough to last more than 6 seconds.

There is a templar ability that does what you were describing (Blazing Shield, morph off of Sun Shield.) That one gives you a damage shield, and then does an AoE returning 50% of the damage that the shield absorbed.
Bank Manager Revived - allows you to set stuff to stack to/from bank by category every visit, so char 1 can dump all mats, char 2 grab BS mats, char 3 grab cloth & prov mats etc, it’s the one add on making me less annoyed with playing Mule Transfer Simulator Unlimited!
Sous Chef for the cooking one.
If you play any Khajiit, Khajiit speak is a must (IMHO, for lore fans of the series).
I don’t play Khajiit and I didn’t know about this mod, but that looks awesome.

If you don’t want to play with the justice system, just do any delve or bandit camp and check all the containers. You’ll find all sorts of stuff.
Yeah, the container-raiding minigame is a bit annoying sometimes, in that containers don’t seem to open in any consistent way (I mean when they’re in clusters), but on the whole, you get just enough goodies now and then to make being thorough worthwhile.
Oh, cool. I’ve been afraid to steal stuff, but now that I’ve read up on it a bit it’s not nearly as punitive as it seems. I think I’ll give thievery a try.

Damn bait and switch again!!! Well, maybe not…sigh Thanks for the information. I found a youtube video about the spell, but streaming video is blocked at work. :( Thanks for the tip on Sun Shield…I’ll look into it.

Still love playing ESO, mostly a melee nightblade. Killer Blade is so visceral. Some of the quests are quite dark. Just did one when any choice would complete it, and they were all so wrong. Would still be paying the sub, but now I don’t have to, so I’ve cancelled the renewal. Hope the cash shop works, can’t say I’m tempted.
Just reinstalled GW2 but only for my mesmer. Aargh, need harvesting tools. ESO does havesting and melee combat so much better.
Found the crafting area in Daggerfall last night and deconstructed all of my zero value weapons and armor for either smithing or tailoring XP. Sold the few pieces of actual value I had and used the money to repair my existing weapons and armor.
I still have some zero value shields, bows and staves in my inventory. I could not seem to find a woodworking bench in the crafting hall. I assume this is what I need to deconstruct those pieces? I only had limited time to play last night, so I went ahead and hopped the ship to Stros M’'Kai to start the newbie quest/tutorial run. Is there a crafting are on Stros M’Kai with a woodworking bench?

I’ve run into a few towns where a woodcrafting bench is separate from the “main” crafting hall, but the town should have one. If a woodcrafting bench cannot be found in the main crafting hall, open your map and look for an icon that… I guess it looks like a crossbow to me. If you hover over it, the tooltip should tell you it’s the woodcrafter.
One other thing to note about crafting is that there’s a Research component to it as well. If you find a “Sturdy” piece of armor, you can research it at the crafting table. This will consume the item, but once the research is complete you can craft items of that slot with that trait. For example, if you found Heavy gauntlets that had the sturdy trait, you could research it and from that point forward you would be able to craft any Heavy glove with the Sturdy trait. You wouldn’t be able to make heavy boots with that trait, nor would you be able to make medium/light gloves with that trait, at least until you researched those as well. Note that for each trait you research for a particular type/slot, the next trait you research takes longer to complete. Certain skills in the crafting trees increase the number of traits you can research at once as well as reduce the time it takes to complete it.
In terms of Stros M’Kai, I haven’t been there so I can’t comment on crafting locations. The map should indicate whether they are available, though!
