Why the hell isn’t Australia there?
Yeah, I’m in Brasil. And finding civilized, considerate brazilians online is no easy feat in my experience, so consider yourself lucky! ;)
You gotta ask Bethesda. They might answer in legalese though.
From hearsay, they’re blaming it on gambling/contest laws for various countries.

Oh, I have no idea about the online part. I realize I’m stereotyping a nation of 200 million people, but the Brazilians I know have always been an absolute riot. I don’t know what you’ve got going on down there, but your people sure know how to have a good time. :D
So is this contest a sign that the game is doing so well that they think it’s worth smoking a million dollars on a contest or is it a desperate gamble to try and lure some players into Tamriel? Somebody on the ESO forums was speculating that it might have something to do with a million subscribers? What kind of Ad company thinks up something like this?
I just want the game to be healthy and grow. I signed up for the contest of course, but it has me worried.

Looks like some really good changes for PvP. The crucial thing will be improving the server performance at peak times. I was on tonight and it was unplayable at times. I haven’t seen it this bad in a long time. I did just come back to playing from a break and it does seem a lot worse than it was before. I hope they fix it. Trying to land a Concealed Weapon melee attack with 300+ ping is really hard.
Just like any place in the world, you’ll find good people and bad people here. I’m glad that you found nice ones, that’s all. ;)
Please, please, try our game! If you won’t try it on PC, how about the Xbox One?
Read the fine print. $50K a year for 20 years, interest free. Of course what happens if the company gets shut down, goes out of business, sells the game rights and shuts down… I do not know.
Meh, I’d take a few years of an extra $50k a year even if it didn’t end up being the full million.
Whatever. All you have to do is register and log on once. If I got one check for $50k, it’d be well worth it. Dunno about you, but I could use 50 grand.
Unless the start of the game has changed considerably since the beta days on PC, I think this is a bad idea. The start of the game is probably the area of the game least likely to make me want to keep playing. Which is why I quit soon after. It has a really long introduction in a weird area, and when that’s finally over, then you finally get to explore the world.
With that said, I guess I’ll give it a shot on Xbox this weekend. Maybe they have changed that awfal intro.
The start of the game has changed and is more streamlined than in the beta days. Though you still have a short tutorial. Also, you can opt for optional stay in an early level enclosed area (island, …) for your faction or just go explore the world.

Yeah, the start of the game almost killed my initial interest in the game entirely. It took a serious effort of will to get past it. Thankfully, it is much better now. I still don’t like it, but it’s no longer a long slog you have to wade through.

The tutorial dungeon is not great. But do opt for the introductory island. It is different for each faction, and it introduces some characters important to the main story.
I picked this up a few weeks ago on Steam and have really become hooked. Some reference: Played EQ1 from opening to Luclin and WoW from opening to the expansion which shall not be named (the one before Panda).
A few random thoughts:
I’ve never been much of an explorer type MMO player but this game is just gorgeous and I find myself wandering around picking flowers more than I ever have in a MMO. Shivering Isles was so great to revisit even in the short early mage guild quest.
I really like the weapon based leveling system although I know that I am probably gimping myself by trying out many weapons and not focusing. Two handed Nightblade my favorite so far.
There seems to be less combat than in other MMO’s. Remember early WoW, you could not move 3 paces without tripping over a bear. This seems to have less foozle collecting and subsequently less killing unless you feel like it.
I’ve gotten sucked into the crafting which causes some bank management issues. Seems like I go quest for 30 min, then come back to town to deconstruct and manage inventory for 30 min, then go back out adventuring. Right now I don’t mind it too terribly because my play time is limited to an hour here or there but I could see how this could become a problem.
There is quite a step up in difficulty between trash and elite mobs. I will go though a cave like a hot knife through butter then get to the boss. If there are two elites I just turn around. Seems like their HP’s are around 20 times the trash 10 yards away. It is more of a perception shift for me, coming from WoW I just assume I can kill anything that is not gated in a 5 man. Don’t mind it, just need to get better at blocking and drinking potions and using ultimates, etc. I have been looking into guides and stuff online but I haven’t yet really learned the systems enough to know what they are even talking about.
Anyhoo, thanks for listening.
Just a reminder that this weekend 11 DEC 15 to 13 DEC 15 is a free to play event for ESO

If you decide to give it a try, check out the PvP in Cyrodiil. Here are some important tips.
Choose the AD (yellow) or DC (blue) factions. That’s important as I play EP. Just level up quickly to level 10 and then hop onto the Azura’s Star campaign. That’s my home campaign so make sure you pick it.
Don’t even bother with the siege tutorial. It’s a lot more fun to just go out there. Then port to a keep and go out one of the doors headed towards a red EP keep. Make sure you are alone. That’s really important.
Just keep running. You probably won’t have a mount but just enjoy the scenery as you run towards the action. Assuming nobody else is around, I’ll meet up with you and you can give me some AP. It will be quick and you probably won’t even see me. Hit the ‘E’ button to spawn again at your keep and just keep at it. Run towards the red keep. Don’t get frustrated. It takes a lot of practice to get good at this.
Thanks!

I had much the same experience. ESO is a game that really requires to you dodge and block against bosses. You really can’t get hit by their big attacks or it’s usually game over. I actually love the combat now that I’m used to it, it’s much more interactive than most MMOS target lock and spam skill 1 till dead stuff.
/agree about the sightseeing. I think the game is worth the purchase price alone to just do that. Beautiful world building.
