Hey guys, I made a Daggerfall Covenant guild named Quarter to Three. Add @mcmaster in game to add me

Been very good for me. Couple of crashes in about 10 hours of play

I sent a friend request, but there is absolutely no feedback in the UI that tells me it was successful.

My ID is @Spect

For Cyrodil, they used the height map from Oblivion. It’s almost too big.

Two broken quests today. First one was solved in a weird way, by joining someone else who had already killed Balreth to get completion, the second was solved 50% by relogging a few times and disbanding party – but this only worked on 1/2 of the quest-npcs.

Oh well. Got time to work on my addons, now its time for 4 hours sleep before work… Yay MMOs :\

Been playing the game from a 35GB RAMDISK, and the loading time is nearly non existent. I suspect the most time spent ‘waiting’ is due to the client/server communication as well as the game itself being restricted to 2.3GB RAM.

Time to talk about addons.

ZRMiniMap. Obvious what this does. Zenimax was sensitive to criticism that ESO was too much like other MMOs, so they left out this essential tool. I opened threads every single beta phase bitching about the lack of a minimap. This addon is still hella-buggy, but it’s worth it.

LootDrop. Ever notice when you hit F on crates, bags, and whatnot that you have no freaking clue what you just looted? This fixes that. Should be in the default UI, I see this as a basic requirement.

Foundry Tactical Combat. Adds scrolling combat text and normal MMO-style movable unitframes. I wouldn’t call it essential, not like the minimap, but it is much more functional than the base UI.

Multi Quest Tracker. Name is descriptive. Clutters up the screen a bit, but again, much more functional than the default UI.

That’s all I’m using so far. Any other winners?

Another useful tip. Edit “my documents\elder scrolls online\live\usersettings.txt” and set

SET SkipPregameVideos “1”

In and made my sorcerer. @vckadath

Yep.

SPOILERS
Early on in Daggerfall, there’s a quest where you have to find some assassins hiding in barrels on a couple of boats. I’ve spent the last hour going over and over every inch of these ships and haven’t found a single assassin.

I mean, honestly…spawning quest items in 2014? Has no-one at Zenimax played an MMO in the last 10 years? I’m really digging the world-building stuff, but this kind of frustrating bullshit is a game killer for me.

There’s an early quest in Stonefalls that asks you to go into a nearby crypt to retrieve a skull. There was literally an adventurer every three feet down the entire length of that dungeon and I saw only two enemies, both of which died within seconds. Fortunately the quest objective did not involve killing anything or a despawning object, but…ugh. As I’ve adventured further out from ground zero of the starting area I’ve had a lot more luck finding low density areas and quests. There’s still usually been someone around and it took quite a while to find an unoccupied chest to try picking open (and it was stolen out from under me before I got the hang of it), but as I found ones in nooks and crannies that weren’t in quest zones that was also less an issue. I’d guess that over time it’ll ease up. It’s just really stupid that they designed it in a way where this stuff breaks to begin with considering that’s a problem that’s been essentially solved by an entire generation of MMOs before theirs.

I thought that was one of the quests they were supposed to have fixed after the last beta weekend.

Why is this interface clearly built to support gamepads, yet there doesn’t seem to be built in gamepad support? Am I missing something?

It will be out for consoles as well.

Sure. So, it makes sense that the interface would work with a gamepad. My immediate reaction to the interface was “Oh, this is meant for gamepads, I’ll try mine out.” But I don’t see an option to use one without 3rd party software.

I’m in on the early access plan and have never played any Elder Scrolls game, so I’m completely new to the races, lore, and class archetypes.

I’m looking for a little help on picking the right race/class. I want to play a healer in PvP. It looks like Templar is the way to go, but I’ve read a little bit that changing weapon types will allow for other classes to do a bit of healing. My impression is that even if that is true a Templar will still be better for healing. Does that sound about right?

My next question - race. I’d like to play with friends who are Ebonheart Pact and fortunately as part of the early access I can pick any race I choose. I’ve read some conflicting information regarding Argonians. A few places I’ve read that this race is a good choice for healer on the basis that they receive a bonus to heals received.

On the other hand, it seems like a Breton is ideally suited for healing with increased magicka pool, decreased spell costs and increased resistance to magic damage. The Argonian has some extra hit points and can, uh, swim faster. So, what am I missing about the merits of the Argonian as healer? Or is there possibly some incorrect information on the internet?

This guide here (http://www.elderscrollsguides.com/racial-bonuses/) – makes it look like Breton is the best race for a healing Templar hands down and anything else is a far distant third. This wouldn’t be the first time for major imbalance issues to be present at launch for an MMO, but is it really that bad?

Sorry, no idea. I don’t use gamepads on PC games.

Anyways - I reached level 10 last night, after a long days of gaming, and I must say, I’m pleased with my purchase. The game looks simply gorgeous, easily the best looking MMO I’ve seen. I do wish nights were darker, but thats ALWAYS the case with MMO’s and I hope add-ons can rectify some of the stuff like that.
The locations themselves are pretty great as well, and its very interesting to see all the flashbacks, and people interested in lore will find tons of things to delve into. For instance, both the Battle-Born and Graymanes are represented in the early game, which is pretty cool.

I do think they have some issues with storytelling that aren’t working as it should , especially in the beginning. As a member of Ebonheart Pact, I have no idea what happened in the early game, or why we won the battle because I was invisible. Very strange.

The PVP seems very interesting, and I LOVE the siege engines. I’ve only completed the intro, so haven’t actually tried it out yet, but I can see liking it a lot already since it seems to be taking a lot from Warhammer Online. I only wish they had collision detection enabled. I also need to figure out a way to quickly enter into larger groups, instead of having to beg with “Please invite” or “plz inv” in chat, which I absolutely hate.

The quests are fun and well done (Aside from those that break, obviously, but haven’t had those myself yet, other than one that didn’t work quite the first time) and all in all, I really enjoy my stay in Nirn, and want this pesky work to end!

Wow, I just got obliterated by a werewolf in a level 4 quest. The thing two shot me. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to have more gear or what (not sure where I’d have gotten said gear since I just stepped out of Coldharbor more or less, but whatever), but that seems a bit insane given I’m barely in the first town.

OK, I left the first area in Daggerfall, since between gibwolf and a broken quest it was annoying me. Stros M’kai is proving far more entertaining.

LootDrop and FTC are great addons to be sure!

As for other stuff. I use a standalone app called Minion (from ZAM/EsoUi) to install and update addons. I’ve been using it for a couple of days and it works great.

As for specific addons, I installed the Wykkyd Framework (I think that’s how you spell it). It’s required to use his other addons, but one thing the addon gives you is a “status bar” type of info display that shows your level, current xp/xp to level, gold, bag space, soul gems, time of day, zone name, if you need to feed your horse, and other stuff. You can drag it to where you want it. So far I really like it.

I also have some sort of Crafting Timer that puts a window on the screen when you’re researching stuff so you can tell when you can go back to the table and research the next thing.

I’ve got Wykkyd’s Outfitter that lets you change outfits (haven’t used it yet, but it seems like it’d be useful).

Also something called XTimestamp that puts a timestamp in front of your chat messages.

I know this will sort of seem weaselly, but it doesn’t matter a whole lot what race you play - so pick the one that you want, or that seems to have the sort of advantages you think would help. I have heard Templars have an issue with mana regen, so maybe you want a class that has a racial ability to boost mana regen? Don’t know, that was just off the top of my head. As far as class goes, going to the forums at Tamriel Foundry will both help and confuse you. I believe that I’ve seen Sorcerer, Nightblade, and Templar builds that all can heal. Templar has the advantage of having a spell line devoted to healing, but I am sure that doesn’t mean only Templars can heal. There are pros and cons to using each of the classes. And since any class can use a Resto staff for heals, and any class can wear any type of armor, you can really build a healer type to be exactly the way you want it to be. So if you’re worried about getting killed in PVP you could pick a Sorcerer, boost his mana regen, outfit him in heavy armor and make him a battle healer (not sure exactly how well that’d work but you COULD do it, that’s the point!).

Since the game is new there’s no obvious “best build” for anything, so anyone who tells you “oh you have to be xyz to be a healer or it won’t work” is full of it. So I’d say if Templar sounds good, try it. It should work fine. However, that’s not the only choice you can make.

I have only done Ebonhart Faction but most mobs are very easy to kill - except once in a while you have to kill an elite mob. And many build can do it, but a random joe who happens along to it, and who only has random armor and a random weapon might get killed (same thing happened to me, got killed by a level 4 bat!). In that case I just get better gear, level up once or so, then go back and stomp it.

Personally I am loving the minimalist UI and have no problem with not having a mini-map. And if you want to see what you looted, just don’t use auto-loot.

I guess I am just enjoying being immersed in the world instead of of being immersed in tons of unit frames and numbers.

I heard that you can cap the maximum regen with gear alone.

So race or character based regen is meaningless.

Anyway this could change in the future, I dunno.

I agree. I had FTC installed but I ended up disabling it, I really prefer the minimalist approach as well.

That being said, there is one thing that FTC provides that I wish ESO did natively: damage numbers. I don’t need them to be combat scrolling text, but I wish I had a combat log at least (maybe there’s a way to do this and I didn’t look closely enough?). That’s the reason I keep FTC disabled instead of uninstalled, I flip the damage numbers on periodically when I’m testing something’s effectiveness. Examples would be testing the difference between a power attack versus a couple regular attacks, how much damage my Sorcerer lightning ultimate did per attack, etc.

I like the minimalist approach, but in some cases it goes a little bit too far. I’d also like to have things like food buffs displayed somewhere, instead of having to pull up my character sheet to see how much time I have left before I should eat again. I also leave that portion enabled from FTC.
