I just counted… 52 of 75 for me.
33 of 75 here
I’m at about 37
About 48 here, especially if I can count games if I played them for about 15 minutes. Like with Stardew Valley, Pokemon Go and Rytmos.
I’m at about an even dozen so far, which is pretty bad, I guess. But then I’m just not as much of a (video) gamer these days, card/board-games being much more interesting to me.
Looking through the list, though, there’s just a bunch of acclaimed games that are in genres I have very little interest in. I hate indie platformers almost uniformly, and Stardew Valley, Inscryption and Disco Elysium all bored the shit out of me.
OTOH, I still play Pokemon Go regularly whenever I’m out and about with downtime, and loved Yakuza 0, Hades, and No Man’s Sky, so I’m not totally out of the hobby yet.
34 here.
24/75 here. I hated some of those games lol
I’ve only played 18 of those, but own 24.
40 here.
They’ve done a nice job of mixing things up, but this is pretty light on sports games and at this point it seems unlikely for one to pop up in the top 25. I agree that it is very weird to have two skateboarding games so close to each other in the rankings. Not very many fighting games either. I guess maybe Street Fighter 6 and Smash Bros. Ultimate both have good chances to be in the top 25.
Per the Mario conversation above, I reckon now they’ll do one 2D Mario (SMW) and one 3D (possibly that Galaxy Switch collection since they love collections so much), which seems fair enough. I think Breath of the Wild topped that big top 100 list from last year, so I wonder if we’ll see some dissent here and they’ll go with Tears of the Kingdom instead.
Edit: I think I’m at a mere 21 played, if I can count remasters / definitive editions that I’ve played the original releases of.
Yeah, a very generous 29 out of 75 for me.
Okay, well, here’s my two penn’orth because I can’t resist.

I only played the Halo games for the first time 2022-2023 and… the idea of including anything past Combat Evolved baffles me. The rest of the games felt messy and ‘strained’ like they were struggling to find the balance that made the open spaces, tight corridor fights and set-pieces in Combat Evolved so kinetic and memorable. Yes, that includes The Library and The Flood. I much preferred its visual identity/clarity as well (certainly not the ‘remaster’, bleurgh). The sequels never quite came together in the same way for me. Not to mention, the plot and dialogue got worse and worse. I wasn’t supposed to be laughing, right? Combat Evolved also didn’t have jackal snipers which makes it the best Halo by default.
-
For Yakuza 0 they said ‘If you must play only one…’ well, do that with Halo and Batman as well. Adding series/collections feels like a copout!
-
I know I’m in a minority here but Forza Horizon 5 (and The Crew) honestly made me think that I was souring on racing games. All that story and avatar nonsense yet the handling and physics (even with assists off) had such little personality, y’know, where it actually matters in a driving game. Thankfully Wreckfest had my back. I suspect (and hope) Mario Kart 8 will be in the top 25.
-
Psychonauts 2 was brilliant in so many ways but the collectible hunting felt archaic and the platforming/combat still didn’t hit the mark for me despite being an improvement over the original. Some beautiful ideas and designs here though.
-
Portal 2 should be higher (see Cocoon) for its single-player campaign and the separate but equally brilliant (cross-platform!) co-op campaign.
-
Nice to see Titanfall 2, The Stanley Parable, Into the Breach, Invisible Inc., Case of the Golden Idol, Shadow of the Colossus and Inscryption on there; they’re among my all-time favourites. I expect to see Return of the Obra Dinn later…
-
I’m more of a Doom Eternal guy myself but I can see why Doom (2016) would be there instead: it’s more accessible and… restrained.
-
It’s been a long time since I played SMW but I adored it at the time, like SMB3, which I played more recently and still enjoyed.
-
I must check out Clash of Heroes.
-
Fair play to Hades and Animal Well. Loved both but the end games dulled the experiences somewhat.
-
Returnal is amazing, and unexpected here, I’ve got to say.
-
I think there are better accessible/approachable puzzle games out there than Cocoon, including the Portal games and, yeah, Inside.
-
I wish I knew how long I’ve spent on Sea of Thieves but alas, Windows Store/Xbox app. I suspect over 500 hours. It has some terrible boss designs, iffy gunplay and I didn’t like the eventual shift towards more single-player/co-op story-focused instanced Tall Tales, but the tense and often calming open world PvP pirating was pure magic. So many fond memories on that sea with friends.
-
I do appreciate the variety of games here.

Preach @lordkosc :D

If Outer Wilds doesn’t make it on the list, the whole thing is null and void.
Cocoon rules. It is placed properly on the list.
Also I’m at 42/75 played in some capacity
100% agree.
Super Mario Wonder definitely seems like a good bet, the safest bet for another Mario game. It gets tricky from there though.
I still think Yoshi’s Island has an outside chance, but not likely. If Super Mario World is good enough (and I agree it is), Yoshi’s Island is also good enough—arguably even better than Super Mario World—but if it was going to show up at all, I don’t think it would be in the top 25 after Super Mario World was only 72. It’s not that much better.
It’s also not exactly clear how willing they are to have more than one entry from a franchise, or how loosely a franchise is defined.
So I’d expect Super Mario Wonder, and probably one 3D Mario, but our 3D options are actually kind of limited. You’ve got Super Mario 64—a true classic, revolutionary at the time, still very playable, but undoubtedly showing its age as well. You’ve got Super Mario Odyssey. It’s good! But it’s not really a remarkable 3D Super Mario entry. And then you’ve got Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. The 3D World games are sort of their own fork from the line you can trace from Super Mario 64, to Sunshine, to Galaxy 1 and 2, to Odyssey. But I think it’s got a decent shot. The multiplayer is a good draw, and even the allure of this particular rerelease including the “great as a freebie” Bowser’s Fury.
This conversation would change if Galaxy 1 or 2 were eligible, but I don’t believe they’re available on the Switch outside of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars bundle, which per Eurogamer’s rules, isn’t eligible since it’s no longer available at retail.
That means no emulation, no dusting off old consoles, no games removed from storefronts everywhere. And it means they have to be in a good place, be that because they’re still as brilliant to play now as they were when they first launched, or because they’ve been gradually improved over time to find themselves in great shape, or been faithfully updated, remade or restored.
Long shot: Super Mario Maker 2. Solid 2D Mario, plus the wide open appeal of creation.
Likely but separate: Some entry in the Mario RPG line.
My Mario prediction is Super Mario Wonder and Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury. But I won’t be shocked if it’s Wonder and 64.
For Zelda I think Breathe of the Wild gets the nod over Tears of the Kingdom, and that those are too similar to both make the list. Whereas I wouldn’t be surprised to see Metroid Dread even though Prime is already on there.
I don’t think Mario 64, Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy qualify for their criteria anymore because Nintendo in their infinite wisdom, stopped selling the collection for Switch, so it’s not easily available like their criteria says it has to be to qualify for the top 100.
Bowser’s Fury is my favorite 3D Mario game, but I didn’t care for 3D World, so I’m split on whether the two of them together should be in the top 100.
Mario 64 is on switch online though, so it might count.
Oh the Switch Online “expansion” that includes N64? I had forgotten about that. You might be right.
I forgot about that! So dumb.
Probably Odyssey then, though I like the 3D World guess. I would be shocked to see Mario 64 at this point, even if it is technically eligible.
I think you can rewind on the Switch version. Though while I’ll accept it as an emulation convenience, to me rewind shouldn’t be natively in platformers except perhaps highly difficult and punishing ones designed around it. I would put Mario World on the easier side as the genre goes (besides some optional levels).
I got all 96 exits for the first time a year or two ago and it holds up brilliantly. It seems like 2D platformers just aren’t your thing - Metroidvanias are related but not really the same genre.
#89 Football Manager 2024 is currently free on Epic, BTW.
