Also I’m still not convinced Franken deserved what he got, but caesar’s wife, etc, etc. Acceptable casualties.

Also on the board of directors at Zenimax!

Ok here is a new twist. Older female professor hits on hunky young PHd grad student. Sends him zillion of ridiculous emails, she gets suspend.

Now here is what doesn’t make sense he is gay and she is lesbian. I’m thoroughly confused.

“Although we have no access to the confidential dossier, we have all worked for many years in close proximity to Professor Ronell,” the professors wrote in a draft letter posted on a philosophy blog in June. “We have all seen her relationship with students, and some of us know the individual who has waged this malicious campaign against her.”

Yikes. It must not be true cause, while we have no facts, we like her.

Pretty sure when people do that in the other direction they’re the first people calling for heads on pikes.

The same thing, presumably, that happens to everyone else.

Ummm???

For all the fear about #MeToo’s aftereffects — for all the predictions that merely dodgy or merely clueless men would be put in the same pen as felonious men — the difference between Weinstein’s outcome and Ansari’s or Hardwick’s outcome illustrates that we’re not treating them all the same. We’re not treating them the same legally, or institutionally, or culturally. We are, in fact, doing the hard, unpleasant work of figuring out who belongs in jail pens and who belongs in pig pens. (And who shouldn’t be penned up at all.)

So is Hardwick not terrible? I honestly didn’t follow that. This seems to suggest that he’s not?

Compared to Cosby, Weinstein, Charlie Rose? no he is not. Compared to Mr. Rogers? yes.

The point of the article is that many (including a few folks here) feared a Feminist Apocalypse that would treat all offenses as Weinsteinian. Every man who was ever caught sneaking a look at cleavage would be forever barred from working in any job except for “mascara burn test subject”.

Hardwick, Ansari, and Franco all suggest that this is not the case.

He sounds like he’s a terrible person to be in a relationship with, but as a boss/professional colleague he seems to be just a run-of-the-mill asshole.

I must didn’t follow it being the initial reports of his ex. Did all that stuff end up being true?

I don’t think we know. It is safe to say that after AMC investigation of it, it was all true then I doubt he’d still have a job.

That Hardwick story seemed ultra-personal. Unlike other metoo accounts, it felt to me like it didn’t belong in the public sphere.

He broke down and cried on Talking Dead or something, so probably?

He seems like he’s a manipulative even abusive asshole if you’re in a relationship with him, but so are lots of people at the end of the day. I was never a big fan overall so my care meter isn’t particularly high either way. I’ve relegated him to the “prick” category in my head.

Kind of. What he did was pretty fucked up, but so is shit that happens every day to regular people as far as that goes. Odds are you work with a bunch of people that do similar shit to their SO.

Maybe, but there is also the aspect that morton mentions. If we’re going after people for being bad boyfriends, even really, really shitty boyfriends… most people aren’t comfortable with that. It would probably be hard to conclusively prove one way or another on top of it.

Trying to blacklist people he’s been in relationship is a step beyond person, and since a few other people quit at his return, I’d say it’s say to say there’s some truth in there if not all. He sounds like an awful person for anyone to be in a relationship with, but beyond that he should have no powers to blacklist people forever like that… which is in the not personal sphere.

Yeah I know nothing of the guy, but that is clearly where the line of ‘private matter’ gets crossed.

That’s what’s making me question whether that stuff actually happened, since folks dug into it and he’s still around.

I was under the impression that the blacklist issue was not just one person. They mentioned it again when multiple employees quit upon his return, like he’s knowing for trying to destroy careers.

Yeah, I’m just not aware of how much of this stuff was corroborated by folks.

I’ll freely admit I don’t know all the details, so I’m more than happy to drop him in the shitbird bucket since that looks like it’s where he belongs.
