I mean, does he need to announce his every action to the world? How do you know what he is or isn’t doing to help himself? IF someday he gets his career back, he’s going to be on very thin ice. If he ever pulls this shit again, there is no chance he can live it down. He knows that, and the women who are willing to interact with him know that. The first time it happens, the world is probably going to hear about it.

Like I said, rage is fine, but it doesn’t actually achieve anything.

You think so huh? It sure must be hard for Louis CK to have all this happen to him. Who knew a predator would have such an easy time making a victim out of himself.
I don’t think anything is going to happen to this guy now or in the future. He got a 9 moth reprieve to do whatever the hell he wanted. Just look at the narrative here. You guys are acting like he didn’t bring this on himself, by choices he made, actions he did… over and over and over and over and over, at least five times.
After a while, it’s just a merry-go-round of snark and sarcasm with no memory-of nor build-upon that which has been said before.
You pulled out all the context of my post to imply that I’m feeling sorry for Louis CK. That wasn’t even close to the point I was making.

I mean, it’s not standard operating procedure to whip your fucking dick out in front of women and jack off without their consent, so I don’t think it matters what standard operating procedures are for comedians who aren’t a sack of shit.
Louie needs to just go away. For a really long time. I don’t know how long. And during that time, he needs to actually do things which make a difference. He should be donating all of his money to reform toxic pieces of shit like himself. He should be going through counselling. He should be reconciling with anyone who wants to talk with him. Or something else, I don’t know.
My point is that the one thing he should not do is show up unannounced and ruin some peoples’ nights - both customers and other performers - acting like he’s entitled to attention and redemption.
If he wants to get back into the limelight and start performing again, then he should explicitly sell tickets to a show advertised as being his show so that the only people who see him are people who actually want to see him. If he gets an audience, good for him - at least it was a consenting audience.

Oh for fucks sake, come back down to reality.
Doing a set at a comedy club isn’t “forcing himself” upon anyone. Stop with this kind of bullshit. It trivializes stuff that actually matters.
You aren’t being fucking traumatized by having a dude go on stage and tell jokes, when you have never had any kind of actual interaction with him. People sitting in the audience aren’t traumatized by his set. He never did anything to them.
You guys are being ridiculous.

I’m not saying anyone is traumatized by this.
But he ruined some people’s nights, and by other accounts, other comedians performing that night didn’t know about it or appreciate it after the fact. So he’s still acting like an entitled piece of shit who basically thinks it’s ok to do this and it shows he hasn’t actually learned anything or grown in any way.

Not exactly, you seem to think the second go around will some how be so much harder than what, the first… why? There is already a group that thinks what he did isn’t that bad, so they don’t understand the reaction of others to it. Why would another victim matter?
These surprise sets are the standard way of doing things but now it’s being re-framed as a consenting-audience analogy. I’m seeing it everywhere. I bet he has too. But for the time being, I don’t see what choice he has. Announcing his shows ahead of time would just lead to protesters and probably media on the scene.
(Hey, I know it’s tempting, but we don’t really need another angry zinger of the “I know, how about NOT performing!” variety.)
It’s amazing to think of him walking down the street and having large swathes of the public just jeering at him. It’s a scene straight out of Louie. I think part of him would relish their repulsion just like the repulsion he got off on with those women. Plus he’s had decades of experience with hecklers. I mean, this is a guy who goes out on stage and says “molesting a child must feel really good.” Then he tries to win them back. This is the ultimate version of that little game he plays with the public.

Surprise sets are fine for comedians who aren’t pieces of shit. People might not like the person who’s doing a surprise set, but there’s a difference between not liking a person and realizing that your money is going to a serial sexual predator and that serial sexual predator is taking attention away from other comedians who want nothing to do with him.
So yes, the fact that he’s a disgusting piece of shit re-frames things a bit. And for the record, that’s Louie’s fault. No one else’s. Louie is not the victim here for the reaction to him.
I mean, if you’re throwing a neighborhood party and the local registered sex offender shows up without the neighborhood first realizing he’s going to be there, even if he was technically invited because it’s a neighborhood party after all, people aren’t really going to be happy about it.
Maybe that’s the reasonable position?

No, you said he “forced himself upon” the audience, which is obscene in it’s level of hyperbole. Someone close to me has actually experienced real sexual violence, and this type of talk about a guy going on stage and telling jokes is so insanely over the top that it seriously pissed me off. So, sorry for being snippy, but seriously, there was no forcing himself upon anyone there. Just stop trying to take it to that level.
If that isn’t an angry zinger of the “I know, how about NOT performing!” variety, it’s a close relative.
There are a lot of people that I would like to have go away forever but unfortunately I don’t have much say in it beyond voting and choosing where to spend my money.
I’m not angry. I think it’s a reasonable question. You’re assuming that there’s some kind of penance Louis can perform which makes it morally OK for him to be paid millions for performing again. Maybe there isn’t.

Honestly, I don’t think it would have been feasible for him to have announced a set ahead of time. The protests and anti-publicity would have scuppered it in hours. Without placing a value judgement on whether his stepping back into the limelight was a good thing or not, this was an excellent way of doing it.
