Bah. When you’re famous, they just let you do it.

Seriously fuck this guy. Between this and hiding COVID numbers he’s gotta go.

Eh, I’d be wary of jumping to conclusions too fast on this.
Seriously, Cuomo has always exuded the same I am transparently a prick vibe that Trump does, and I don’t know why people wanted to lionize the guy.
I feel like it’s the same reason we wanted to believe in Giuliani or Bush after 9/11… aka crisis-goggles.
Well unlike Trump he’s apparently competent at administering a government. NY had a decent (all things considered) COVID response and Cuomo’s refreshing transparency on the challenges of responding to a pandemic was welcome.
That being said, if he’s really harassing women in the workplace then yeah there’s a problem and it’s probably time for him to step aside.
Cuomo was lionized because he was at the center of the storm (as rmorton just said) and he came across very nicely as credible, calm, and transparent. He was on the radio every day telling NY that we would get through this. He can be a very inspirational speaker when he hits the right notes, though he also has a very strange sense of humor sometimes. Plus, he was an easy comparison to Trump.
The sexual accusations yes, the covid nursing home stuff is overblown calls from the right who have been yelling about it for almost a year because they hated how he looked good because it made Trump look bad.
Cuomo did the bare minimum as an administrator, but Trump was such an idiot fuckhead that he fucked it up. He could have even shut up and let Pence continue running the show.
The fundamental “scandal” is that the deaths were counted as hospital deaths instead of nursing home deaths. And the narrative the right was pushing is Cuomo threw them to die. They have been twitter botting this after ever single Cuomo tweet for a year.
Health Department officials made public new data that added more than 3,800 deaths to their tally, representing nursing home residents who had died in hospitals and had not previously been counted by the state as nursing home deaths.
.The findings do not change the overall number of Covid-19 deaths in New York — more than 42,000

Yeah, Cuomo was doing Covid press briefings in a way that they should actually have been done. Our country would have benefited from having similar briefings done at the national level.
Hell, in many ways, Cuomo’s NY briefings WERE the national level briefings.
I’ve heard from friends all around the country who said the same thing: they were tuning in to Cuomo every day for reassurance.
And agreed with wisefool–the Nursing Home thing is a nothingburger. Numbers shifted from column a to column b. I never have understood why anyone cares.
The harassment thing, on the other hand, I suspect has legs.

It definitely may, but I’m not going to rush to judgement, just because I feel like Cuomo’s painted a target on his back from the right wing.
This is quite an apt comparison.

I know I used it that way. Between work info and NY briefings, I felt informed and sometimes steady. I don’t know what the heck the neck Brown was doing, but it was not great when it came to mass communication.

Well one of the reasons this was important is that COVID patients were sent to nursing homes, which was criticized at the time, and then the nursing home residents were sent to hospitals when they got COVID. Notably they didn’t accurately represent how many people were sent to nursing homes or how many residents of those nursing homes ended up dying from COVID. Seems like they were trying to cover up the impact of their early decision and got caught hiding that impact.
Release 9000 patients on March 25, 2020 after they already spent 9 days in a hospital?
I would have done the same.
This was on the same day
The famous East Elmhurst video where that doctor talks about people dying all over and no equipment
If Gov. Cuomo stands by his decisions he shouldn’t conceal data. To be clear I’m not weighing in on the policy’s merits, I’m saying the scandal is more than just whether people died in a hospital or in a retirement home.
Should Cuomo and/or his administration have concealed data? Of course not. But in this case, you are talking about data in one column of a spreadsheet rather than another column of a spreadsheet. In the broader scheme of things, it is just another part of “Covid Theatre” *™. It is just background noise that the Republicans want to whine about, as they whine about everything else.
I hear what you are saying about the “Covid Theatre”. I think it’s also notably the person making the most hash out of this and who was pushing for the data to be released was a Democrat who opposed the moving of patients to nursing homes.
Yeah, Cuomo and Kim don’t exactly like each other, but I also think Kim has aspirations for higher office. Which are misplaced…

Those columns. Data exist with categories for a reason. Intention vs mistake is more important in this case than actual concealment.
