Super fuck this guy. His qualified “apology” that he never “touched” anyone is meaningless. You can abuse and harass women without touching them, asshole.

“I never touched anyone inappropriately. I never touched anyone inappropriately. I never knew at the time that I was making anyone feel uncomfortable. I never knew at the time I was making anyone feel uncomfortable,” he said.

“It never occurred to me that young women might feel uncomfortable when receiving sexual advances from powerful old men,” he said. “I thought that was the point of power.”

(Not an actual quote)

I’m kind of surprised he is offering any sort of apology actually. He strikes me from the ranks of Trump like mentality when it comes to how to approach these things.

It’s 2021. Everyone on the planet should be aware that sexual suggestions at work is just a no no. But hey, it’s only March, we’re probably due for another tech, gaming or maybe yet another political individual to go down after being shocked, shocked I tell you, that their toxic culture nurtured longingly by their tender hands led to something that most adults know is not okay.

Clearly not an actual quote, as evidenced by your failure to repeat yourself.

I think that might be an older ethos - obviously one that doesn’t really fly nowadays. You know, you can scream at people all you want, but as long as no physical harm is done, it’s within acceptable bounds.

D’oh!

As usual, South Park had a take on this in 2016.

I guess this is the place for Cuomo these days?

There is of course the Covid Nursing Home thing as well, but it opens with the sexual harassment thing and it feels like it has more legs since it’s so much easier for the public to parse, so I went with here.

I have never met a single person who used an internal complaint procedure for something as serious as sexual harassment or discrimination and didn’t live to regret it… assuming they had any intention of staying to work there. The others left and never intended to stay. So what I am getting at is any defense of well I was never reported… heh, sure.

The nursing home thing is… well early PPE issues weren’t just found in nursing homes but the health systems too. He’s got too much going on around him, so I can see why the others are done with him.

Did Spacey end up actually abusing someone, or did that stuff end up being unproven?

On one hand, if he abused some kid, that’s horrific… but if it was just false accusations, then that’d also be horrific to destroy the guy over.

There were no legal charges (well there were but they were dropped), so there will never be a rigorous investigation to prove or disprove anything. Enough industry people all chimed up at once saying he was problematic that it’s a reasonable view to take to assume that he was in fact engaged in problematic behavior.

It looks like he is trying to make a comeback and as long as he’s learned his lesson and improves his behavior I’m okay with that.

Now Bob Dylan? Allegedly.

Twelve year olds, Dude.

I think at this point I don’t really care, as callous as that is. The dude is a million years old, and nothing is going to change my opinion of his music.

Edit. Wow, he’s only 80? I thought he was like 100 or something.

Yea, Dylan gets Michael Jackson status. Defile the person’s reputation all you want, I don’t care, their art is too good to cancel. This isn’t a cultural revolution.

The Dark Side is all fun and games until the inevitable, terminal case of Emperor Face.

Seriously, I saw Dylan play the E Center like, I dunno, 20+ years ago, and I thought he was 80 THEN.

Really bad shit like this was weirdly out in the open. Look (or rather, don’t) at album covers like Virgin Killer from the Scorpions. There’s Blind Faith’s album which Wikipedia says:

There’s songs like Jailbait and other crap. I mean… I’m not at all surprised to hear it about Dylan. They all weren’t just not keeping it a secret, they were putting it on their album covers, writing songs about it, etc. Damn.

He’s from the 60s, not the Swing era.
