Less Firing Line, more reviews, dammit!: 34%
It’s an entertaining read.: 28%
The articles are OK every now and then.: 17%
I love it! I even recommend it to friends.: 15%
I love it, but not enough to recommend it.: 6%
Uh…ouch? The poll sounds like they’re weighing it against reviews; the top choice presents an either/or proposition. And I’m not really clear on the difference between saying ‘it’s an entertaining read’ and ‘the article are OK every now and then’. I think they need to hire a new polling company.
What they really need to do is have a poll about who would win in a steel cage deathmatch fight between me and Brett.
I go to places like Firingsquad and Gamespot for reviews 90 percent of the time. That is why they are called “game review sites.” If I wanna read something deep and engrossing, I’ll read an article on politics or business or something that is worth spending alot of time mentally digesting and mulling over.
Why exactly does it not look good? Yeah, the biggest single category is “more reviews,” but 66% of the people are in favor of Firing Line. A full 51% voted in the “love it” and “entertaining read” categories. That sort of kicks the crap out of that 34% who want more reviews.
And what the hell is this fetish for more game reviews? Isn’t every non-porn site on the web offering game reviews these days? Why do we need more of them? Yeah, I’m biased here, but even if I hadn’t come up with the Firing Line idea, I’d be all in favor of it because at least it’s an attempt to do something different with game coverage. Why people want it scrapped so that Firing Squad can publish the web’s 3001st review of Star Wars Galaxies doesn’t make a hell of a lot of sense to me.
