I guess there has to be a game of the year, as in the best game that came out opposed to a memorable game that came out. If it was the latter, then I would have no votes for PC games because there is absolutly no game that came out this year that I will think back on as a game that I had a lot of fun with.
However, to rate the best of the ones I played:
PC Games:
NWN2
Oblivion
Titan Quest
City of Villians (not sure that came out this year or not)
I’d mostly given up on really getting into RTSs, let alone games set in World War 2, but CoH showed me that I could love again. I didn’t play many games that came out this year. Of those that I did, I played DEFCON and enjoyed it, but I don’t think it was good enough to be second behind CoH. I also played a fair amount of Oblivion, but by the end I was disgusted with it. Oh, and GalCiv2, which I had some fun with, but in the end the weird economics prevented me from enjoying it.
Edit: Oh, I forgot about Dwarf Fortress! That was pretty fun.
CONSOLE
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Wii Sports
Winning Eleven 9 (though not as good as 8)
Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime (will be moved to handheld if that opens up)
Excite Truck
I kind of think GOTY should be something special, so a lot of games are eliminated.
CONSOLE:
Dead Rising
Gears of War
PC:
Oblivion
Company of Heroes
HL2E1
Games that didn’t make the cut:
Saints Row: Good, but it really is just a GTA clone.
R6: Vegas: Really fun, but the bugs just disqualify it
NWN2: Same as Vegas - really fun but so very very buggy.
Console
1.) Dead Rising (360)
2.) Final Fantasy XII (PS2)
3.) Saint’s Row (360)
4.) Gears of War (360)
5.) Rainbow Six: Vegas (360)
PC
1.) Dominions 3
2.) Dwarf Fortress (would be #1 if it was more than an alpha/pre-beta)
3.) Battlefield 2142
4.) Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
5.) (no more worthy entries)
