The forum maintenance thread

I just scrolled through the whole thread, the only broken images were from RichVR and either direct links to Imgur or Sharegif.com. My guess is they don’t like people doing that.

Navaronegun’s pic is a direct link to blogspot.com, and again, maybe they just don’t like people using their bandwidth in that manner.

I hear you but that last one above is from Blogspot. It shows up in the preview screen too.

IDK man, it’s happened a lot only starting in the last 3-4 days. I’ve just ignored it and uploaded. But that last one was the one that got me wondering.

Test http

Test https

There’s your problem. You’re embedding an image on a non-encrypted remote source. Use https in your links.

Good catch, amigo.

Stop breaking the forum everybody!

I think what’s happening practically is that links that used to just not display period and would show up as HTML link blue text now “fool you” and pre-display in the preview pane, but then show up as a blank.

Yes, we have a strict content security policy to prevent cross-site scripting attacks, which breaks the embeds. There’s actually no way for the forum software to know about that. Solution is simply not to embed http objects. It’s 2019, everything should support https. I mean, we were probably the last site on the internet to do so.

Yeah, I always try to post a link to save the the storage space on the forum, but if it wasn’t Https, heck I don’t check. And before it would’t even preview so I’d change it. Knowing now that’s the cause of that particular error gives me the tell to then add the https.

Yeah, it is freaking late in the day to not have a secure site, huh?

I also edited it into the OP for the GIFs thread, hopefully people will see it.

Am I the only one who keeps getting periodic short failures to load on Qt3 for the last, say, week? When it happens, I don’t lose access to any other websites, so I assume it’s the forum host? But if it’s just me, then maybe there’s something flaky with my internet. It has been being a bit janky lately.

Happening to me too. Sometimes I get the ‘failed to load’ discourse message (from not getting a response from the API call), and sometimes the whole page won’t come up.

Yay discourse!

We monitor the forum from US west, US east, and EU, checking once per minute, and haven’t had any outages at all in the past couple of days except when I rebooted the host on Feb 10th at 1PM ET.

Availability over the past 7 days was 99.96% from US east, with 4 minutes of reported downtime. Last significant downtime was Feb 4.

So it’s possible that you guys are hitting very fast intermittent glitches with the site, but it shouldn’t be widespread or our monitoring would have caught it.

Stusser is a bad motherf—-Shut yo mouth!

I’m just taking ‘bout Stusser.

Well, I can dig it.

If you’re interested, I setup a public status page here:

I was going to suggest that you put it in the top post, but that’s been done. Because you are a cat who won’t cop out when there’s danger all about.

I don’t mess around, homie.

Is that a happy piece of butter with shades on, to show all is well?

I always thought of it as a slice of toast, but sure why not.
