In Denmark we used to use a wonderfull system that was numbers from 0-13. WEll, not every number of course.
00 = failed
03 = not so good
5 = bad
6 = Passed
7= just above passed
8 = average
9 = Above average
10 = Quite good, actually
11 = Superb
13 = Above and beyond whats being taught.
Thats my suggestion - its such a quirky little system its a wonder anyone ever thought it out, much less used it for 30 years in public school.

After looking up some movie reviews on Rotten Tomato, I think I like their system the best. Just have reviewers give it a positive or negative score. Was it worth the time spent playing or not. The star, points, purple moon, yellow marshmallow system leaves too much of a debate/backlash. Even if somebody reviews a positively, since it only got a 9.2 while a different game got 9.8 the reviewer is now an idiot asshole jerk that deserves to die in a fire for not giving the other game a higher score.

Hey guys, I think we’re sinking…
Brilliant, that made me laugh out loud! =)

Vat are you sinking about?
Also, grade inflation means that these grades aren’t as well defined as you might think, and it brings us back to the 7-9 scale. C, which should be average, is often seen as a poor grade, and Fs are unthinkable to many people.

I feel unmoored. Adrift. Something is different.

Hahahahaha…I love the fact that ‘bad’ is better than ‘not so good’.

I’m still waiting for some logical explanation regarding the 1-5 scale by the way.

That link exploded my browser in virus warnings. Nice.

newgrounds.com?
Is the biggest flash games community on the internet. The most serious, successful and established one. But, oh well… banners are sometimes negotiated with third parties, and the owner never know what people will see ( thanks to shit like geolocation, to serve different banners to different regions ).
Also the line between antivirus software and snake oil is thin.
As Teiman says, it’s a big, popular and established site. No virus warning on my pc.

Chances are it was an ad on their site that triggered it.

Could it possibly have been some kind of inspiration for deciding to write this excellent piece on when you should listen to your community and when you should ignore them?

Not exactly, but there is a definite relationship.
Denying the need for a meta, the “place where we discuss the place”, is incredibly dangerous to the long term health of a community in my experience. It was certainly the biggest mistake we made on Stack Overflow / Stack Exchange by far, and by “we” I mean… er… me.
I’d argue there should be a whole Q23 subarea for discussing Q23 itself.
(and also definitely group moderation, which would immediately defuse all the “Tom is fallible!” criticisms, but maybe not an infraction system per se…)
