IIRC, if you’re using the dongle from Microsoft, you’re using MS’s proprietary protocol. The controller has both things available.

I was never able to get the Xbox wireless dongle to work.

Yeah it’s probably the dongle, which doens’t use bluetooth. I have my controller literally 1 foot from my desktop’s bluetooth dongle and no dice without manually repairing each time.

The MS dongle doesn’t use BT, it’s their proprietary protocol which is supposed to be lower-latency and lighter on battery usage. If the BT isn’t pairing properly, it’s probably your computer’s fault.

The new controllers are really quick to switch between proprietary and BT. To switch to BT, hold the pairing button on the back, to switch back double-hit it. If you use a MS non-BT dongle on your PC you will need to pair every time you switch.

That just reminds me how much I miss Game Room. I wonder if I could still play Game Room on my 360?

The game doesn’t have its own thread, so I figure I’ll post a bit about Genesis Noir here. I mentioned that the demo didn’t really work for me, but the full game is more interesting if not a whole lot more, well, sensical if that’s a word. To sum it up, it’s a story of a doomed affair between a jazz aficionado and a torch singer, who is gunned down by a spurned saxophonist. BUT it’s also a story of the beginning of the universe, big bang on to the development of life on earth. At the same time. Interwoven in interesting ways. And I didn’t totally follow everything that happened but I was interested enough to see it through. I recommend if you’re looking for something really indie and really off the beaten path.

XBL Gold 1 year for $50 deal is back on, if anyone still needs to do the conversion.

Was just coming to post this. :)

I hadn’t taken advantage of it, but figured now was the time to jump in. Can confirm the conversion still works.

Summary

Now THIS is bonkers,
MLB The Show 21 is Coming to Xbox Game Pass on Day One - Xbox Wire

It’s so bonkers I may need to revisit thoughts on Bethesda games going to PS5. Sony developed game not only coming to Xbox, not just to Gamepass, but day one on Gamepass. What?

I’ve gone and created a thread for this so discuss there.

I’m not going to click on that because it’s too early in the morning to be disappointed that PC isn’t included.

I spent the last couple weeks playing The Messenger on Game Pass. It’s like Ninja Gaiden in a Metroidvania. The game characters even joke about it. It’s really solid, I had a great time with it, and I recommend you all give it a try if you haven’t!

I enjoyed that game a lot until the twist, which should have made me enjoy it more but I ended up dropping it.

Yeah, I’ve been playing it as well, and definitely felt like the first part was stronger.

The metroidvania side is too heavy on the repeated backtracking, especially with how widely spaced the portals are, and it’s missing the classic metroidvania carrot of being able to use new movement abilities to access small but meaningful upgrades when revisiting an area. Both because the new areas are generally gated by time-shifts, and because instead of finding self-contained upgrades, it’s mostly power seals, which do nothing short of 100%ing them.

Got very annoyed the other night in the cloud ruins. I had slowly made my way through a good number of tricky screens full of instant death pits, and got stuck at a sequence with around four of those screens in a row. I couldn’t leave and explore elsewhere without losing my place and having to go through the whole area from the portal again, so I kept beating my head against the gauntlet. Finally got through, only to find a dead end with a power seal.

Still liking the game overall – the tone is amusing and the double-jump after hitting an enemy or projectile is a really fun movement mechanic to build around, but I’m ready to wrap it up.

I loved the Messenger, but, yeah, there were some areas that were too challenging for their own good. I still felt compelled to snag all the collectibles.

I know it’s been posted 100 times before, but how do you do the conversion and is it worth it just for PC gamepass.

Definitely worth it. The PC games available is pretty insane.

What I did was to buy the XBox Live Gold 12-month at the best sale price you can find. Or buy 2. Or 3. (3 years is the max you can front load for conversion.)

Redeem the card(s)/code(s) to your Xbox Live account. Now you’ve got however many months, pre-paid as Xbox Live Gold.

On your account page for Xbox Live, you should see a button to upgrade your Xbox Live months to Game Pass Ultimate months for $1.

Do that and answer the questions and click through the confirmations and you’re set.

Yes, that’s exactly right. One caveat is that when you apply the first two years Microsoft will offer you one month free if you sign up for recurring billing. Don’t do that, because you can’t have over 36 months at once, meaning it won’t let you apply the third year.

With this deal there’s no argument at all, it’s totally worth $4.19/month. Even if you only play one game per year off Game Pass, games cost sixty dollars.

It’s probably worthwhile at the full price of $15/month too, but that’s a lot more debatable.

Thanks @triggercut and @stusser

The conversion works as long as I don’t have an active membership right? I was a member but it expired a month or so ago.

If you subscribed to game pass previously but let it expire you can do the conversion, but it’ll cost you $14.99 (one-time) rather than $1.
