I’ve been saying that for a bit

I am signed up for 3 years of future backlogging!

Frontlog!

I originally signed up for 2 years. Now I am just hoping the live->game pass conversion Stusser has detailed out so many times continues to work in October when my current sub expires. If it does, I will be extending it another 3 years.

What is the best deal if you only want PC games?

Same deal as above. Sign up for 3 years of Xbox Live Gold, then convert to Ultimate.

PC only game pass is $10 a month now, so if you can get a deal on Ultimate for less than $10/month, it’s a better deal.

They are (apparently) also doing the staggered but still includes PC Gamepass thing for Edge of Eternity when it hits consoles Q4 2021 - I had to go to the steam discussions and found a post by the dev.

I’ll definitely check out dark alliance next week. It looks promising, despite the absolutely terrible original announcement trailer.

Looks like we’ve got a new set of games leaving the service soon. Just my standard public service announcement: if you haven’t tried Outer Wilds yet, I highly recommend giving it a shot. It’s not going to be for everybody but if it clicks with you, it’s an amazing experience.

Ok, installing Monster Hunter: World.

Not that I think I’ll like it, but I have GOT to know what the heck the game is really like before I dismiss it.

Guess I better give Outer Wilds a try now before it goes. I tried Monster Hunter World a while back but found it pretty boring, I’m not sure why that series gets hyped so much.

This is how I play games on GP. I wait until they’re leaving soon and then I frantically try and finish them. Got through several games last weekend that way, all busts except the excellent Observation, which I started and finished all in one day.

That was interesting, but I’m not sure the “game” parts were that great. Definitely would not have finished with without a guide. I take it Night Call did not engage you? I found it interesting if mechanically simple.

Oh man, I loved Observation. Played it twice actually, I bought it on Epic back when it was released and then again on Game Pass. I can’t say I understood it a lot more the second time around, but it was still a great experience.

I thought Observation was really good. The puzzly bits were easy enough so I rarely got bogged down, though I did have to consult a walkthrough once to figure out what to do next. The metaphor of “station computer” doesn’t entirely work since I’m not a ship’s computer and I respond to relevant stimuli emotionally rather than computationally, but all in all I thought it was a pretty cool and concise experience.

Night Call didn’t work for me at all. I liked the art and ambience, but putting together a bunch of random “clues” didn’t appeal to me at all.

I think that’s where I felt like it didn’t fully execute on the idea, I thought playing an AI taking care of the humans was a really neat idea, but it didn’t seem to go further than doing mini-games and following the script. The needle was all the way over on story and away from gameplay. That said, it was definitely interesting, with a great sense of place and some really nice visual images over the course of the story. Really liked the camera pulling away and letting us see 4 stations, then more … and more. Finding the other versions of characters was pretty cool, too.

I’m with you. Sometimes I need a deadline to help me focus my gaming time. I get excited when they make the monthly announcement of games that are leaving soon.

I’ve finished quite a few games this way and even bought a couple through the MS store (Kingdom Come, The Surge) when I failed to complete them in time just so I could save my progress.

Does gamepass have an annual subscription, or is monthly the only option?

For the consoles Game Pass is simply “Xbox Game Pass”. The official name of the PC offering is Xbox Game Pass for PC. Microsoft uses “Xbox Game Pass” to refer to either the console only version, or both.

This only makes sense to the marketing team that came up with “Series X|S”.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered. I probably won’t bother, since I didn’t like it originally, but I’m kind of curious to see the Remastered version to see how they upgraded the visuals.

I’m looking forward to Prodeus (retro first person shooter), but not in Early Access.
