I lament this constantly. I search for something like “how do I turn off subtitles in this game” and the only search results are 5 minute videos, when all I need is a two-sentence description. I guess it’s because you can monetize YouTube views?

BTW, for those wondering, the new version is actually an updated version of RealMyst- full 3d, range of movment, etc., not the slideshow of the original. And it is very pretty.

But it’s hard, and you pretty much have to take notes-there’s nothing in-game to help at all, and no way to review clues you found earlier except running all the way back to the book/diagram/etc and looking at it again. Brutal.

I actually recommend turning on the option to make it a slideshow again. I’ve played through the Masterpiece edition twice and greatly preferred it that way.

This was good advice. I’ve finished it now (I think? There were no end credits?). Got the obvious Good Ending. Only needed a hint once, on the Stonesship level (which button to press on that table. The hint is rather obtuse once I read it, and I wasn’t going to press each button in turn/resetting the power inbetween). Once I figured out how the tower worked, it was all pretty easy from there.

I did map the rail tunnels on paper, and took pictures of a few puzzle bits to refer to later (the constellations, the torn vault clue paper, the fireplace), but really that was it.

All in all, happy to have finally knocked off a bit of gaming history, and really it only took a few hours.

Myst was running like crap on my Series S even in performance mode. I’m not exactly dying to play it as puzzles aren’t my jam, but I found that a bit surprising. It was right near the beginning too. I’m sure that will get patched.

I think I’m going to install Myst on my PC - it’s cool that it’s available on console but that would feel weird to play there, wouldn’t it?

It was ok on console, but the interface was a little annoying. Mostly standard first-person controls (thumbsticks for move/look) but the center of the screen is essentially your mouse cursor. So when you try to hit a button to open a door, for example, the zone you had to hit was small, so it could be fiddly. There should have been some sort of snap-to for proximity objects, ot something. They actually use that in a bunch of the puzzle interfaces, so it’s not like they couldn’t, they just didn’t. Small complaint, however.

I get that it has to do with licenses with the car manufacturers but a Microsoft developed game dropping off of Game Pass still seems weird.

All the Forza games go away at some point. Like automobiles themselves, they have built-in obsolescence.
