I have a month of gamepass, how much of a priority should I make it to play Gears Tactics? If I don’t get to it now I don’t mind joining again later. I got this month for CK3 and I’m done playing it - not for me. How about Phoenix Point? I played at release and thought it was OK, but was a bit lacking at that point. I also have XCOM: Chimera Squad on Steam.

I’ve been enjoying Gears Tactics a whole lot.
And Phoenix Point recently got a big update to how the Geoscape plays. I only gave it a quick look but the changes seem promising.
Game Pass also has Mutant Year Zero and I’m curious about the new Dark Crystal tactics game… it didn’t get great reviews (75ish) but I might give it a shot anyway.
This worked for me as well. I did have issues getting the Live Gold Membership codes purchased. Amazon kept cancelling my order so I ended up going to newegg.
That’s done through the Xbox app?
Where’s the ultimate page?
Is 2 years the max?
You can redeem up to 3 years of a subscription service with Microsoft.
I followed this article that lordkosc posted above: https://www.theverge.com/2019/6/18/18684136/xbox-game-pass-ultimate-convert-xbox-live-gold-36-months-how-to
There’s a link to the Ultimate trial in there. I redeemed the codes on the XBox app, but I’m pretty sure you can also use the Microsoft Account website, or XBox One console, or whatever.
I believe Mellified is correct that it can be up to three years. I only went for two because that feels so long to me, maybe the service will be all hidden object games by then. ;)

Sorry, I am out of the loop. I have been without Xbox Live gold for many years now. I don’t have nor expect to have an Xbox. However, I am very interested in locking down this game PC game pass option. Can you break down these steps a bit more?
I buy Xbox Live Gold digital codes on amazon (I might even already have one in the house from 2015 or so), then I go to Xbox Live Gold’s site? Here?
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/gold
Then I login to my old account, add the 24 months of cards. Then I look for a Gamepass Ultimate trial? I saw an Gamepass $1 trial in the PC app store, but I guess that is different? Do I need a PC gamepass before or I shouldn’t have one? Is the PC app used at all in this process? And do I need more than the Amazon cards? I really don’t want to give MS a credit card number from multiple bad experiences (lack of concern for account security on their side).
Thanks, this deal does seem really good. If I can figure it out.
Is there some way to tell if you have used the trial? I don’t think I have, but would hate to run into a problem.
Nevermind, looks like I can still redeem it.

Would still subscribe. :)
My Xbox Live Gold account was last active in 2009.
What I did was buy the codes and then go to my microsoft account under services/subscriptions and my old 2009 account was listed. I clicked “manage” and there was a link to redeem the codes.
Just as an aside, I selected auto-renew on the codes which added an extra month on each for some reason. I then went to xbox.com and clicked the $1 trial for ultimate game pass and it converted both my gold and gamepass for pc subscriptions to Ultimate with a renewal date of January 2023.

To go against the flow of this thread a bit, I found Game Pass Ultimate to be worthless. I bought 3 months at $1/month, and ended up playing one game for maybe 3 hours and another for 10 hours. Finished neither. Installed a third game, but never even booted it up. Not renewing, even at $5/month for the PC Game Pass, was the easiest decision ever.
The fundamental problem with the business model is that I don’t want to play “some game”, I want to play “this specific game”. It’s very different than TV series and movies, where I’m OK with paying Netflix to deliver me infinite amounts of schlock since I’m probably not really paying attention to it.
I mean, I’m the same (as I am with Netflix for that matter). But there’s a lot of specific games I want to play on Game Pass.
I like to play “some game” and also “this specific game.” I’ve had a lot of fun trying out random stuff that Game Pass has offered like Minit, Astrologaster, Outer Wilds. It’s totally been worth all the Bing clicks I pay for it.

I mean yeah, if you don’t want to play any of the games on Game Pass then it’s not worth getting Game Pass, duh. But there’s such a huge variety of games on there, I’d be surprised if there’s too many people like you jsnell, who really don’t want to play Wasteland 3, or Crusader Kings 3, or Age of Empires 2 or Flight Simulator, or Crackdown 3, or Darksiders Genesis, or … on and on, and there’s so much there.

That’s a good point too actually. I also enjoy playing “some game” sometimes too, even though most of the time it’s a specific game (these days Wasteland 3). My “some game” these days is still “The Touryst”, which is surprisingly still charming me from time to time, and something I’d never have bought myself.

I think I am on the right path. I can add up to 3 years/ 36 months of time before I convert?
Fun fact, my 12 month Xbox Live Gold card that was a free promo that I got when I bought Halo 4 still worked. That was my first 12 months loaded. Now I am off to Amazon for 12 or 24 more.
I’m kind of the same way. I’ve tried a ton of games via Game Pass that I otherwise would never have played - and I’ve greatly enjoyed them. Hell, Opus Magnum on Game Pass lead me to Zachtronics, a “genre” I never would otherwise have enjoyed. And I played the shit out of Lonely Mountain, The Touryst, Human Fall Flat, and others. None of those are games I would’ve purchased outside of Game Pass, or probably even taken a second look at.
On top of that, though, I’ve enjoyed the variety of larger games it’s offered, like Crackdown 3, Outer Worlds (and Wilds!), etc.
I can’t decide if my exploration is seeking value to justify Game Pass, or finding value I didn’t know existed before, or some combination of the two. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter - I adore the service, and I’m incredibly happy with it. My gaming has increased significantly because of it.

I bought 2 years-worth of XLG on Amazon, but haven’t received the emails with the codes or even an email that I made the purchase. Why can’t you view the codes on your Amazon account?

You can. It is under a digital library option. That said, sometimes it is instant, other times it can take hours or days to get the code.
