Mr. Gorbachev, that’s a mighty fine wall you’ve got there!

Mr. Gorbachev, REINFORCE THAT WALL!!

Holy Fuck, I had to triple check to see this wan’t an Onion article. My God, I don’t remember her being this stupid when she started at Fox. Do you get lobotomy at Fox or when you join the Trump administration?

Mr. Gorbachev, DON’T FORGET THE RAZOR WIRE!

Where’s the moat and the alligators?

Also, sounds like you all were TRIGGERED. Mission Accomplished. Go buy the book.

That it’s a weak defense in a discussion about how words are used and we’re liable to get Derrida all over our shoes if we go in that direction. :)

Yes, language evolves. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be careful about how it evolves. Hence my objection to people appropriating the word “conservative” when they already have the words “Republican” and “Trump supporter”. It’s not like we’re short on words for what to call those morons, cowards, and assholes. What we are short on are words for what to call the political ideas common to Bill Kristol, William F. Buckley, Joe Walsh, and Justin Amash. Those guys express an ideology that already has a name. That ideology, and therefore that name, should not be glommed onto Trump supporters just because “language evolves”. Next you’ll be telling me that “literally” means “extremely”!

This is just like Scott saying conservatives want to “conserve privilege”. You guys are just sneering at political ideas you don’t like. And I understand the inclination, because I disagree strongly with many of the conservative ideas I listed. But I’m also capable of respecting people with integrity who hold some of those ideas and who have been excluded from the political process.

Furthermore, these days, I kind of like a lot off those people because they’re on our side when it comes to the Republicans metastasizing into something that should have no place in American politics.

As a Berlin native I was confused by the notion, but it’s dawning on me that she probably thinks that the Wall was built by NATO to keep 'em commies out of Western Europe.

I wouldn’t be to sure.

I mean, if the argument is whether she is evil or stupid, my counter argument is - Why not both Evil and Stupid? I mean, it’s what works for Trump.

Oh, not disagreeing with you there. I was trying to determine which kind of stupdity there might be going on here.

I can’t help but be reminded of this beautiful passage from Heller:

Lieutenant Scheisskopf’s wife had turned ashen in disbelief and was ogling him with alarm. ‘You’d better not talk that way about Him, honey,’ she warned him reprovingly in a low and hostile voice. ‘He might punish you.’

‘Isn’t He punishing me enough?’ Yossarian snorted resentfully. ‘You know, we mustn’t let Him get away with it. Oh, no, we certainly mustn’t let Him get away scot free for all the sorrow He’s caused us. Someday I’m going to make Him pay. I know when. On the Judgment Day. Yes, That’s the day I’ll be close enough to reach out and grab that little yokel by His neck and -’

‘Stop it! Stop it!’ Lieutenant Scheisskopf’s wife screamed suddenly, and began beating him ineffectually about the head with both fists. 'Stop it!‘

Yossarian ducked behind his arm for protection while she slammed away at him in feminine fury for a few seconds, and then he caught her determinedly by the wrists and forced her gently back down on the bed.

‘What the hell are you getting so upset about?’ he asked her bewilderedly in a tone of contrite amusement. ‘I thought you didn’t believe in God.’

‘I don’t,’ she sobbed, bursting violently into tears. ‘But the God I don’t believe in is a good God, a just God, a merciful God. He’s not the mean and stupid God you make Him out to be.’

The problem is that they call themselves conservatives. Just like communism and socialism are forever stained by the authoritarians who co-opted the philosophy, conservatism is now stained by Trump. Perhaps it can be rehabilitated someday by a Bernie-like figure.

Not to pile on the pile on, but that tweet was from 2015.

Let’s see what the valiant memelords on the right have been cooking up.

My favorite part is either Omar’s suicide vest (don’t blink or you’ll miss!) or the fully formed adult teeth getting punched out of the uh…abortion baby.

He actually says, “professor Chink”?

I think that’s supposed to be “Professor Cenk”, as in the TYT guy.

This is quite a good little survey from Pew which attempts to place you in a particular political category.

On the negative side, the questions are binary and don’t permit much nuance. On the plus side, they’re not satisfied with ‘conservative’, ‘moderate’, ‘liberal’ as categories and recognize that core conservatives are a small minority both in the general population and in the more politically engaged. This finding offers a lot of support for @tomchick’s view that it is wrong to conflate Republicans and conservatives. On the other hand, it finds a lot of conservative support for Trump; both Core Conservatives and Country First Conservatives overwhelmingly support and approve of Trump, although few people actually seem to like his conduct.

You can take the survey yourself and add to their database. I did, and got placed as Solid Liberal, along with 16% of the general pubic.
