Ahem, we had a peaceful revolution in Portugal in 74, with some not so peaceful events until the following year. And kinda-sorta Spain did as well. In either case, it’s not really clear whether a near complete amnesty was the best of ideas. Looking at current day South Africa, ditto.
On the other hand, moral superiority is its own victory that gives you legitimacy, so… it’s complicated.

The point was that getting rid of the Tsar didn’t require the second. The second was about getting rid of pro-war Democracy.

On the other hand, the first involved not a little violence. It was, ultimately, an armed insurrection. It wasn’t an election.

I’ll concede that, if just to note there was much more like the violence of civil protestors rather than an insurrection. It would have probably broken out into something like an insurrection had the government not collapsed, perhaps.

The second otoh had nothing like a majority of the social orders behind it - where the upper middle classes and Worker’s Soviets has some kind of continuity the Bolsheviks wanted a total break with all social convention.

I agree. I’m not defending Bolshevism. I’m saying that peacefully removing the oppressive regime was not on the table in February of 1917, and some sort extra-legal action was required, and that sort of action produces violence. It’s true that much of the violence was carried out by the regime, but it’s also true that the people ultimately armed themselves en masse and suborned some of the military and threatened their own violence if the Czar didn’t step down. It took the force of arms to change the regime. That’s all.

Trump and the GOP have 6 more months to sink the country further, do irreparable damage, and possibly cancel/rig the election in November. That’s plenty of time to put America into a state not unlike that of France in 1789 or Russia in 1917. Don’t underestimate the ability of Trump and the GOP to burn America down to the point where revolution is an actual viable alternative for many Americans.

Trump is basically saying he’s gonna steal the money Congress allotted. Like Trillions of dollars just going wherever he wants, despite the bill specifically saying he can’t do it.

When he tries to cancel the election (or more realistically make it nearly impossible for any group that isn’t in his pocket vote) it’s going to get ugly. I’ve seen plenty of people on both sides, even non-political people making plenty of guillotine jokes.

The reality is you reach a point where if you don’t do something, you lose your freedom and don’t get it back.

IDK, we could eat cake.

2 trillion would buy a lot of cake, but sadly its going to be used to fortify the castles instead.

7k Federal judges will likely still be doing that long after Trump is gone.

Who could have seen this coming?

Because why not? This is Mississippi and not Missouri, and that is not a pic of the governor.

“I’ll realize my insider trading gains” really is an amazing response.

Well, if he is wanting to commemorate a whole lot of Southerners dying from being stupid, COVID-19 time is the perfect time to do so!

Rhetorical question: At some point in the article she commits to donating her ill-begotten gains to charity, right? Right?? That’s the only possible way any of it makes sense.

And today - the day to celebrate Victory over Treason in Defense of Slavery - is absolutely the best day to do it!

It’s never been established she had any gains. Given the way the stock market was moving in early March, it’s far far more likely that she had losses.

Maybe read a bit about what she’s been doing?

On multiple dates, after being briefed on the coronavirus epidemic, she either sold shares that could be expected to fall (e.g. retail stocks) or bought shares that could be expected to rise (protective gear manufacturers, work from home technology providers).

Of course she says she didn’t do it, someone else did it on her behalf. As all insider traders always say.

Edit: Inside trading is a crime, even if you don’t make money!
